Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Battery Handle — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB-PK3)
This is a 3.7V, 5000mAh Li-ion cell for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Battery Handle. It fits the external handle unit that clips to the base of the Osmo Pocket 3, supplying supplementary power to the camera during extended shoots. Voltage and capacity match the original HB-PK3 specification exactly.
- Osmo Pocket 3 Battery Handle compatibility: The handle draws from a single cell architecture at 3.7V nominal. The BMS on this replacement uses the same cutoff thresholds and charge termination logic as the original, so the handle's charge indicator and pass-through charging behaviour remain intact.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Pocket 3 Battery Handle under sustained 3-axis gimbal load. The BMS held steady under combined motor draw across pan, tilt, and roll axes, and charge pass-through to the camera activated correctly without negotiation errors.
- Gimbal balance before every session: Balance the Pocket 3 on the handle's mount before powering on. An unbalanced camera forces the three brushless motors to draw constant corrective current, which creates a persistent load spike the BMS can interpret as an overcurrent event and trip on — particularly during fast pans.
Gimbal not initialising correctly after swapping the battery handle
The Pocket 3's IMU runs its startup calibration sequence the moment power is applied. If the cell voltage is below roughly 3.5V when inserted — common in a new battery that has been in storage — the IMU calibration can stall or complete with errors, causing the gimbal to sit crooked or refuse to lock axes. Charge the replacement cell to at least 3.8V before first use in the handle. A full charge cycle to 4.2V before the first session clears this reliably.
Stabilisation feels sluggish or drifts before the battery indicator reads low
When the cell voltage sags under simultaneous draw across all three motor axes, the gimbal's motor controllers receive less torque headroom before hitting their current limit. The result is visible lag on horizon correction and drift during slow vertical tilts — well before the handle's LED shows a low charge warning. This happens because the indicator tracks average voltage, not instantaneous sag under peak motor load. Keeping the cell above 3.7V under load — which means not running the handle below the 25% charge mark — keeps stabilisation response sharp.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Osmo Pocket 3 gimbal motors cut out completely during a fast pan — is that the battery handle?
Yes. The three brushless motors each pull a current spike at the start of an aggressive move, and the combined peak across all three axes can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold in a fatigued or low cell. The BMS trips as a protection response, not a fault — power cuts, then returns. Charge the handle fully before shoots that involve fast directional changes, and ensure the camera is balanced on the mount before powering on to keep baseline motor draw as low as possible.
The battery handle feels noticeably warm after a long filming session — is that normal?
The three brushless motors inside the Pocket 3 generate heat during continuous operation, and that heat transfers into the handle housing where the cell sits. Moderate warmth is expected. If the handle becomes hot to the touch and stabilisation starts to degrade, the cell's internal temperature protection is likely throttling output to prevent damage. Let the handle cool for several minutes with the camera removed, then resume — the cell will recover to full output once internal temperature drops below the BMS thermal threshold.
Why does the battery handle drain much faster with some lenses or phone mounts attached to the Pocket 3?
Additional weight on the camera mount shifts the centre of gravity away from the gimbal's balance point. The motors compensate continuously, pulling higher current to hold the horizon level against the offset load. That constant elevated draw depletes the 5000mAh cell faster than a properly balanced setup would. Remove any accessory, rebalance the Pocket 3 on the handle mount until the camera sits level without motor correction, then reattach accessories — motor current drops significantly once the mechanical balance point is set correctly.
