Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Dopod P860 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (POLA160)
This is a 3.7V, 1350mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Dopod P860 Windows Mobile smartphone. It replaces OEM part numbers POLA160 and 35H00101-00M. The P860 is a compact PDA-phone hybrid, and this cell restores full power functionality to the device.
- P860 fit: The P860 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a specific connector keying and BMS handshake tied to the device's power management IC. This cell matches that voltage rail and connector layout, so the phone's charge controller accepts it without triggering fault flags.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge on compatible hardware. The BMS held voltage within spec across the discharge curve, and the charge controller completed a full CC/CV cycle without cutoff errors.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable any fast-charge mode and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate its discharge curve against the new cell before high-current charging is applied to an uncalibrated cell.
Why the P860 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The P860 uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its percentage model from the previous cell's charge history. When you fit a new cell, the IC is still referencing the old degraded discharge curve. It will read high early in the discharge and then drop sharply. One full discharge down to automatic shutdown, followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%, forces the IC to remap its curve against the new cell's actual capacity.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage collapses faster than the fuel gauge IC predicts under combined screen and modem load. The P860's processor and radio draw sharp current spikes — if the cell's internal resistance is slightly elevated, voltage drops below the cutoff threshold before the percentage reaches zero. The fix is to run the recalibration cycle first: a full drain to shutdown, then a full charge. If shutdowns persist after two full cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated, as a partial connection adds resistance that accelerates the voltage sag — target a resting open-circuit voltage of 4.1–4.2V after a full charge to confirm the cell is within spec.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dopod P860 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months — is the cell dead?
Probably not dead, but the BMS has locked out the cell after voltage dropped below 2.5V during storage. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will re-initialise and allow normal charging. If the screen shows a charging indicator after that window, the cell is recovering. If there is no response after 45 minutes on charge, check the cable and charger with another device to rule out the power source first.
The P860 feels warm near the battery slot during the first charge — is something wrong?
Mild warmth on the first charge cycle is normal with a new high-impedance cell. The charge IC runs in constant-current mode against a cell it hasn't profiled yet, and the higher internal resistance of a fresh cell converts more energy to heat than a broken-in one. If the device is hot to the touch or the back panel is uncomfortable to hold, stop the charge and let it cool to room temperature before resuming. Warmth that drops off after the first full cycle is expected; heat that persists into the second and third cycle is not.
The battery percentage on my P860 keeps jumping around erratically — 60%, then 80%, then 45% within minutes.
That's the fuel gauge IC recalibrating in real time against a cell curve it doesn't recognise yet. The IC stored the discharge profile of the old degraded cell, and the new cell's voltage-to-capacity relationship is different enough to confuse it. Run one uninterrupted full discharge — let the phone run until it shuts itself off — then charge to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle the IC locks onto the new curve and percentage readings stabilise. Do not top up or interrupt the charge mid-cycle, as partial cycles reset the recalibration progress.
