Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dopod Touch / S1 / S500 / S505 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ELF0160)
This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the Dopod Touch, S1, S500, and S505 smartphones. It slots directly into place of the original ELF0160 cell. Voltage and connector match the original charge IC exactly.
- Touch, S1, S500, and S505 share this cell: All four models run the same 3.7V battery architecture with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers the entire line without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Touch platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC stepped through trickle, bulk, and termination phases cleanly.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to around 5–10% before recharging completely. The Windows Mobile fuel gauge IC on the Touch series reads coulombs against the old cell's internal resistance profile — one full cycle resets that baseline against the new cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Dopod Touch after a cell swap
The Touch's fuel gauge IC builds a discharge curve from the previous cell's internal resistance. When a new cell goes in, the IC is still reading that old curve. At around 20–30% reported charge, the new cell's actual voltage hasn't dropped that low — but the IC thinks it has and triggers a shutdown. One complete discharge-charge cycle forces the coulomb counter to recalibrate its endpoint against the new cell. After that cycle, shutdowns at false-low percentages stop.
Dopod Touch won't power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the voltage drops below 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips into lockout to prevent further discharge damage. The phone shows nothing — no charging animation, no boot screen. Connect the device to a wall charger (not a USB port) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC delivers a low trickle current that slowly lifts the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically around 2.9–3.0V, at which point the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Dopod Touch shows 25% battery and then just cuts off — is the replacement cell faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The Touch's fuel gauge IC recalibrated its low-voltage cutoff point against your old, worn cell — which had much higher internal resistance and sagged to shutdown voltage at a higher state of charge than a fresh cell does. The new cell can actually sustain voltage further into discharge, but the IC doesn't know that yet. Run one full discharge down to auto-shutdown followed by a complete charge, and the coulomb counter resets its endpoint to match the new cell's discharge curve.
The battery percentage on my Dopod Touch is jumping around erratically after fitting this cell — what's happening?
The Windows Mobile fuel gauge IC on the Touch series tracks charge using a coulomb counter that was calibrated to the impedance profile of your original cell. A new cell has different internal resistance, so the counter's estimates drift as the IC tries to reconcile measured voltage against an outdated model. This produces erratic percentage readings — sometimes jumping 10–15 points in either direction. Two full discharge-charge cycles are usually enough for the IC to settle. After the second cycle, readings stabilise to within a few percentage points.
My Dopod Touch gets noticeably warm near the battery while charging the new cell — should I be concerned?
Some warmth during the first few charge cycles on a new cell is expected. A fresh high-impedance cell causes the charge IC to work harder during the bulk charge phase, converting more energy to heat than it would with a broken-in cell. The temperature should drop to near-ambient by cycles three or four as internal resistance falls. If the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — during charging after the third cycle, check that the charging port is clean and that you are using the original charger, not a third-party unit with an incorrect current profile.
