Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than the BMS rated current threshold allows under restricted airflow. A partially blocked filter or brush roll forces the motor to work harder, spiking current draw and triggering a soft voltage sag. The robot reduces suction power as a protective response rather than a battery failure. Clean the HEPA filter and check the brush roll before concluding the battery is at fault.

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. When sustained suction restriction pushes current past the pack's cutoff threshold, the BMS disconnects the output to protect the cells. After a brief recovery window, it reconnects and the motor restarts. The fix is to clear the blockage or replace a clogged filter — once airflow is restored, current draw drops back within the BMS's safe operating window and the cutouts stop.

My Dreame L10s Ultra Gen2 cleans for a noticeably shorter time than it used to — is the filter the first thing to check?

Yes. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current than its rated load, burning through the battery charge faster than normal. We measured a meaningful increase in current draw on bench when running the vacuum with a saturated filter versus a clean one. Clean or replace the HEPA filter first, then run a full clean cycle to see if runtime recovers before assuming the battery has faded.

The robot returned to dock and won't charge — the dock light is on but the battery stays at zero.

This is usually a BMS re-initialisation issue. When a Li-ion pack discharges deeply — below around 10V for a 14.4V 4S pack — the BMS can lock out charging as a protection measure. Place the vacuum on the dock and leave it for 30–60 minutes without interruption; some chargers deliver a low pre-charge current that can bring the pack voltage back above the BMS unlock threshold. If the charge indicator still shows no activity after that window, the BMS has likely permanently latched and the pack needs replacing.

My replacement battery charges fine but the bot loses suction suddenly on carpet and then recovers — is that a faulty cell?

It is almost certainly a BMS overcurrent trip, not a cell fault. High-pile carpet increases motor resistance, which spikes current draw — if the draw exceeds the BMS cutoff threshold, the pack disconnects briefly and reconnects once current drops. Check that the brush roll spins freely and clear any hair wrap, then confirm the filter is clean. Those two steps reduce motor load enough to keep current within the BMS's rated window and the cutouts stop.
