Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Edding Portable 12 / LO-G-PO-12 — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is an 18V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 6000mAh (108Wh) for the Edding Portable 12 and LO-G-PO-12 cordless tools. It fits drilling, fastening, and cutting applications in the Portable 12 platform. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original pack specification.

  • Portable 12 and LO-G-PO-12 platform fit: Both models share the same 18V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS communication protocol — one pack works across either tool without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge sequences, monitoring BMS behaviour under simulated motor-start inrush spikes. The overcurrent protection reset correctly after each trigger-pull event without latching fault.
  • Motor break-in on first use: Run the tool at half load for the first two cycles before full-torque applications. This allows the BMS to profile the motor's inrush current draw and calibrate overcurrent thresholds before you hit peak demand.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge

When you pull the trigger hard on a drill or saw, current demand spikes sharply in the first milliseconds before the motor reaches operating speed. If the BMS overcurrent threshold is set conservatively — common on fresh packs — that spike can trip a protective cutoff. The tool goes dead on the pull, even with a fully charged battery. Short, light trigger-pulls for the first two cycles trains the BMS threshold to the actual motor profile and prevents nuisance trips.

Tool bogs under load despite showing full charge

This is voltage sag — under heavy draw, the pack rail voltage drops enough that the tool loses torque even though resting voltage reads 18V. The most common cause is high contact resistance at the battery terminal, not cell degradation. Clean the battery contacts and tool bay with isopropyl alcohol, reseat the pack firmly, and retest under load. If sag persists, check resting voltage with a multimeter — a healthy fully charged 18V Li-ion pack should read approximately 20.5–21V at rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Edding Portable 12 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — why does a full battery do that?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current exceeding the pack's protection threshold. It's most common on new batteries or packs that have been in storage. Start with short, light trigger-pulls for the first few uses to let the BMS calibrate to the motor's inrush profile. After two or three light cycles, full-trigger pulls should stop tripping the cutoff.

The charger is blinking red and won't accept this pack — is it faulty?

Most likely the cells have self-discharged below the charger's acceptance voltage during storage. Standard Li-ion chargers refuse to charge packs below roughly 2.5V per cell to prevent cell damage. Some chargers have a recovery or "wake-up" mode — hold the pack on the charger for 10–15 minutes and check if the light shifts. If it doesn't, check cell voltage with a multimeter across the terminals; a reading below 15V on an 18V pack confirms deep discharge, and you'll need a charger with a manual recovery function.

The Edding Portable 12 performs fine in summer but feels noticeably weaker in cold weather — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the pack can deliver and causes voltage sag under load. Store the battery indoors at room temperature and only bring it out to the job site when you're ready to start. A battery warmed to 15–20°C before use will deliver full rated voltage; check the pack's resting voltage with a multimeter and confirm it reads above 20V before starting cold-weather work.
