Fits Emporia Touch Smart, Touchsmart V188, and Touch Smart 2 — replaces OEM part AK-V188.
3.7V at 1100mAh delivers standard daily-use capacity for this senior-friendly phone platform.
Connector slides vertically into the battery slot with a single locking tab on the left edge.
We bench-tested the AK-V188 BMS on a Touch Smart simulator — fuel gauge IC accepted the new cell after power-on, voltage held steady under idle and screen load.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with fast charging disabled — this recalibrates the coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emporia Touch Smart Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AK-V188)

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the OEM battery in the Emporia Touch Smart, Touchsmart V188, Touch Smart 2, and TOUCHsmart.2. It fits the same footprint at 53.80 × 42.80 × 5.40mm and connects directly to the existing charge circuit. Capacity matches the original 4.07Wh spec — no modification needed.

  • Touch Smart series compatibility: All four listed models share the same chassis, connector pinout, and charge IC handshake. The BMS on each variant expects the same voltage floor and charge-termination signal, so one cell covers the full lineup without any firmware or connector adaptation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Touch Smart platform. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, held charge termination at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff triggered correctly before hitting cell damage threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before resuming normal use. The Touch Smart's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve during this first full cycle — skipping it causes the percentage readout to drift.

Why the Touch Smart reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage-to-capacity relationship of the replacement. The gauge keeps estimating capacity against old data, so the percentage shown on screen drifts — often reading 40% when the cell is nearly flat. One full discharge-charge cycle forces the coulomb counter to reset and relearn against the new cell's actual curve, bringing the readout back into alignment.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under the load of the modem radio or screen backlight — a voltage cliff the fuel gauge did not predict. The phone's protection circuit cuts power before the displayed percentage reaches zero because actual cell voltage has already fallen below the 3.0V cutoff threshold. It is not a faulty cell — it is an uncalibrated gauge estimating too high. Run one full discharge cycle to shutoff, then charge to 100%, and the gauge recalibrates the cliff point accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Emporia Touch Smart won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months — is it dead?

Most likely the cell discharged below the BMS lockout threshold of around 2.5V during storage, and the protection circuit has shut the cell off entirely to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC on the Touch Smart can trickle current into a deeply discharged cell at a low rate until voltage climbs back above the BMS re-enable point, typically 2.9V, at which point the phone will boot normally.

The Touch Smart feels warm near the battery during the first few charges after fitting this cell — is something wrong?

A new high-impedance cell generates more heat during charging than a broken-in one because the charge IC pushes the same current into a cell with higher internal resistance. On the Touch Smart's 1100mAh cell, this is normal for the first two to three charge cycles as the cell's internal resistance settles. The warmth should reduce noticeably by the third full charge. If the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — or the back distorts, stop charging and check the connector seating.

Fast charging stopped working after fitting the replacement — the phone only trickle charges now.

The Touch Smart's charge protocol negotiation happens at the start of each charge session, and on the first cycle with a new cell, the BMS sometimes rejects the higher current rate until it has completed one standard charge. Plug into the original Emporia wall adapter, let the first charge run to 100% at whatever rate it accepts, then disconnect and reconnect — the protocol handshake typically re-enables at the correct rate from the second cycle onward.
