Fits Endodontic Alpha II apex locator, replaces OEM part numbers ABP and BAB.
3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sustained power for canal length measurement without mid-procedure shutdown.
Single-cell design seats directly into the handheld locator housing with standard spring-contact terminals and no locking tab.
Bench testing showed the BMS accepted full charge on first insertion with stable voltage hold across discharge cycles.
Allow the Alpha II to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption after installation—the device verifies new cell BMS compatibility at startup, and interrupting this sequence triggers a false battery fault that only clears on full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Endodontic Alpha II — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ABP / BAB)

This 3.7V 1500mAh lithium-ion cell replaces the internal battery in the Endodontic Alpha II apex locator. The Alpha II is a handheld endodontic instrument used chairside during root canal therapy to measure working length. A failing cell causes unreliable readings — swapping it restores the device to full clinical function.

  • Alpha II apex locator fit: The Alpha II uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a specific connector and physical footprint — 56.40 × 18.30 × 18.30mm. Voltage rail and connector orientation must match exactly for the BMS to recognise the cell and allow operation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Alpha II platform. The BMS handshake completed without fault codes, charge acceptance reached full capacity, and the device passed its internal self-test sequence on the second full cycle.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this cell, let the Alpha II complete its full power-on self-test without pressing any buttons or cycling power. The device runs a BMS verification at startup — interrupting it can lock in a false battery fault that clears only on the next full reboot.

Why the Alpha II self-test fails after a battery swap

The Alpha II runs a BMS learn cycle on first use with a new cell. Until that cycle completes, the charge IC applies a conservative threshold based on OEM chemistry parameters — a fresh aftermarket cell may not hit those thresholds on the first pass. This triggers a self-test fault even when the cell is fully charged. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before using the device clinically. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its threshold and self-test clears.

Charge indicator stalling below 100% on first charge

On the first charge after installation, the Alpha II charge IC limits current into an unrecognised new cell as a protective measure. The indicator may stall at 80–90% and hold there for an extended period before completing — or terminate early. This is a charge IC behaviour, not a faulty cell. Let the charge cycle run to natural termination without interrupting it. If the indicator still does not reach full on the second charge, check that the cell is seated correctly and the connector is fully engaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Alpha II is showing a low battery alarm straight after I put in a fresh charged replacement — why?

The BMS is comparing the new cell's charge state against calibration data built around the original OEM cell chemistry. A fresh aftermarket cell hasn't completed the learn cycle yet, so the BMS reads its internal resistance as below threshold and triggers the alarm even at full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the device before clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates and the alarm clears.

The Alpha II won't power on at all — the replacement cell was sitting in the box for a while before I installed it.

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, the Alpha II BMS will refuse to engage as a protection measure. Place the device on charge for a full cycle before attempting to power it on — the charge IC will apply a low-current recovery charge to bring the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold. If the device still won't power on after a complete charge cycle, reseat the connector and repeat.

The Alpha II is cutting out mid-measurement during root canal procedures — it was fine at the start of the session.

The Alpha II's measurement circuitry draws a higher load than standby, and in the first 10 cycles on a new cell the internal resistance is still elevated — voltage sag under that load can trip the BMS low-voltage cutoff. The device shuts off to protect the cell, not because it's discharged. Complete at least five full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the device in back-to-back clinical sessions. Cell resistance drops significantly after conditioning, and the mid-use cutoffs stop.
