Fits the Ferrex R800 Smart lawn mower; replaces OEM part CA0005.
20V nominal, 3400mAh capacity delivers consistent deck motor power across full charge cycle.
Slide-lock connector seats into the mower's battery slot with a forward click and lever latch.
We ran full discharge cycles on the R800 platform; BMS held steady through thick-grass blade load without nuisance cutoff.
Before first spring use, bring this pack indoors overnight if stored below 10°C — cold Li-ion raises internal resistance and can trip the blade motor inrush threshold.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ferrex R800 Smart — 20V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CA0005)

This is a 20V 3400mAh Li-ion battery for the Ferrex R800 Smart cordless lawn mower. It replaces OEM part CA0005 and fits directly into the mower's battery bay. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • R800 Smart platform fit: The R800 Smart uses a 20V single-cell-group Li-ion pack with a proprietary connector and BMS handshake. This replacement matches the cell configuration and communication protocol so the mower's discharge management behaves as it would with the original pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the R800 Smart's startup and cutting cycles. The BMS handled blade motor inrush without tripping, and cell voltage held steady across sustained cutting loads typical of a domestic lawn.
  • First use of the season: If the mower has been stored over winter, bring the battery indoors overnight before use. Below 10°C, Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance. The blade motor inrush current on a cold pack can trip the BMS before you've cut a single row.

BMS cutoff under thick grass or wet-grass blade load

The R800 Smart's BMS monitors current draw on every cycle. Thick or wet grass forces the blade motor to pull significantly more current than it would on a dry, well-maintained lawn. When that inrush exceeds the BMS threshold, the pack cuts power to protect the cells. This is not a battery fault — it is the BMS doing its job. Let the mower sit for five minutes before restarting, and reduce pass width on dense growth to keep current draw within range.

Charger shows fault light after mower sat unused all winter

Li-ion packs self-discharge slowly during storage. After several months in a cold garage, cell voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger sees a pack that looks over-discharged and refuses to start a charge cycle. Some chargers have a recovery or trickle mode; connect the pack and wait up to 30 minutes to see if the fault clears as cells recover slightly. If cell voltage has dropped below 2.0V per cell, the pack is outside safe recovery range and needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The mower cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a short wait — what's causing that?

This is thermal protection in the BMS activating, not a faulty battery. The blade motor generates sustained heat through long cuts, and the BMS shuts down discharge when cell temperature hits the protection threshold. Allow a five-minute cooldown with the battery out of the mower so airflow reaches the pack. If it trips consistently on short rows, check whether grass is wet or thick — both increase current draw and accelerate thermal buildup.

The pack feels noticeably warmer than my old battery after a cutting session — should I be concerned?

New Li-ion cells run slightly warmer than a broken-in pack for the first few cycles while internal resistance settles. This is normal through the first five charge-discharge cycles and should reduce. If the pack is too hot to hold comfortably after a normal cutting session beyond that point, stop using it and check that the battery contacts in the mower bay are clean and fully seated — a poor connection increases resistance and heat at the terminal.

Cold morning, battery charged overnight, but the mower feels sluggish and loses power quickly on the first run — is the battery faulty?

Li-ion capacity drops measurably below 10°C because cold cells have higher internal resistance and cannot deliver peak current as efficiently. The mower will feel underpowered and the BMS may trip sooner than expected. Bring the battery indoors for a few hours before your first cut on a cold day — at room temperature, full capacity returns. If sluggishness persists on warm days after five or more full cycles, the cells may need replacing.
