Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Flir FX / FXV101 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (G713140AJ)
This 3.7V 800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original G713140AJ battery in the Flir FX, FXV101, and FXV101-WV1 wireless security cameras. The FX is a compact home monitoring camera that runs continuous or motion-triggered recording. A depleted or degraded original cell is the most common reason these cameras drop offline or stop logging events.
- FX and FXV101 platform fit: All three models share the same 3.7V cell footprint, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers the full range without any wiring changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through simulated motion-event bursts — the combined IR LED and processor current spike during trigger events — and confirmed the BMS held voltage without tripping cutoff under repeated load.
- First-install power cycle: After fitting the new cell, power cycle the camera once through the Flir app. The firmware needs to register the new cell before motion events log correctly to cloud storage — skipping this step can cause missed clips even when the camera appears online.
App showing 0% or incorrect battery percentage after installing the G713140AJ cell
The Flir FX uses a voltage-threshold indicator, not a fuel gauge IC. When a new cell is installed, the camera's firmware reads the resting voltage and maps it to a charge percentage — but that mapping only calibrates correctly after one full charge and discharge cycle. An out-of-box cell sitting at storage voltage (typically 3.6–3.7V) can register as 0% or an arbitrary number until the cycle completes. Charge the camera to 100% via the app indicator, let it run through a full session, then recharge fully. The percentage display stabilises after that single cycle.
Recording stops mid-clip on the FXV101 when WiFi signal is weak
When the FXV101 loses and then re-acquires a weak WiFi signal, the reconnect handshake draws a short current spike that can push total draw — processor plus IR LEDs plus radio — past the BMS overcurrent threshold. The BMS trips, the cell disconnects briefly, and the clip ends. This happens more often with aged cells whose internal resistance has risen, but it can also occur with a new cell if the WiFi signal is marginal. Move the camera closer to the access point or add a mesh node within range — target a signal level that keeps reconnect attempts below one per recording session.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Flir FX camera goes offline in the app every time I fit the new battery — what's happening?
Fitting a new cell clears the active firmware session token, so the app loses the camera's registration even though the hardware is running. This is not a cell fault. Open the Flir app, remove the camera from your device list, then re-add it using the on-screen pairing process. Once re-registered, the camera holds its connection normally.
Night vision stops working after a few hours of darkness — the camera is still online but the IR LEDs go off. What causes this?
Sustained IR LED draw overnight pulls the cell voltage down steadily. If the cell's resting voltage drops near the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold (around 3.0V on this chemistry), the BMS sheds the highest-draw load — the IR LED array — to protect the cell before a full shutdown. A genuine 800mAh cell in good condition handles overnight IR draw without hitting that threshold. If this symptom persists with the new cell, check that the charging contact on the camera is clean and that the cell reached a full charge (indicated as 100% in the Flir app) before the session.
Motion events are triggering in the app but no clip is saved — the recording log shows blank entries. Why?
The combined current spike from the IR LEDs, image processor, and WiFi transmitter firing simultaneously during a motion event can momentarily trip the BMS overcurrent protection. The camera detects the trigger and logs the event, but the cell cuts out before the clip writes to storage. We saw this on the bench when the cell was below 3.5V at rest. After fitting the new G713140AJ cell, run one full charge cycle and confirm the resting voltage reads above 3.6V before relying on it for motion recording.
