Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Zumo 400 / 500 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-10863-00)

This 3.7V 2600mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Zumo 400, 450, 500, and 500 Deluxe motorcycle GPS navigators. It matches OEM part numbers 010-10863-00 and 011-01451-00. Fit this when the original cell no longer holds charge through a full ride.

  • Zumo 400 / 450 / 500 series fit: These models share an identical battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol across the range. One cell covers all four variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Zumo 500 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and voltage held within the expected 3.7V nominal window under continuous navigation load.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power interruption, the Zumo performs a GPS cold start. Take the unit outdoors and power it on before your first ride — first satellite fix takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

Saved routes and POIs disappearing after a battery swap

The Zumo 400 and 500 series store some active navigation state and recently used data in battery-backed RAM. When you remove the old cell completely, that volatile memory loses power and clears. Saved routes stored to internal flash are usually retained, but unsaved active routes or recent destinations in RAM will not survive the swap. Before pulling the old battery, sync the device to Garmin Express or manually save any active route to internal storage.

Zumo shutting off without a low-battery warning

After fitting a new cell, the on-screen battery indicator is uncalibrated. The device's fuel-gauge reading still references the old cell's discharge curve, so the visual indicator can show two or three bars right up until the BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff threshold and shuts the unit down. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it corrects itself after two to three full charge and discharge cycles. Run the battery down to auto-off, then charge it fully to 4.2V twice, and the indicator will track accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zumo 500 lost all my saved routes when I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Routes saved to internal flash storage survive a battery swap. What gets lost is any unsaved active route or recent-destination data held in battery-backed RAM — that clears the moment power drops to zero. Before pulling your old cell, connect the Zumo to Garmin Express and sync, or go into the route manager and manually save any route you want to keep to the device's internal storage.

The Zumo is showing full bars then dying with no warning after the new battery — what's wrong?

The fuel gauge is reading from a stored discharge curve calibrated to the old, degraded cell. With a fresh cell, the voltage stays higher for longer, so the indicator stays artificially high — then the BMS hits its hardware cutoff and shuts the device down with no visual warning. Run the battery down to auto-off twice and charge it fully to 4.2V after each cycle. The gauge recalibrates and the warning will appear at the correct threshold from the third cycle onward.

Satellite lock is taking 10 minutes on my Zumo 400 after fitting the new battery — is something wrong with the GPS receiver?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery completely cleared the GPS almanac data the receiver uses to predict satellite positions. Without that data, the unit runs a cold start and has to download fresh almanac information from scratch, which takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the first fix completes, the almanac is cached back to flash and warm starts will return to under a minute — you only see the long delay once after a full power removal.
