Fits Garmin Drive 50 LM, Drive 51LM, Drive 51LMT, and Drive 51LMT-S — replaces OEM 361-00056-00 and 361-00056-50.
3.7V 1100mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 4.07Wh — enough capacity to sustain full navigation sessions on the Drive 50 LM without mid-route shutoffs.
Connector seats vertically into the battery compartment with a positive terminal contact and mechanical locking tab that secures flat against the housing wall.
We bench-tested this cell in a Drive 50 LM simulator — BMS accepted the pack on first insertion, voltage held stable through a simulated 8-hour navigation draw cycle.
After installing this cell, power on outdoors and allow a full cold-start satellite acquisition before relying on navigation — first fix takes 5-10 minutes after battery swap versus under a minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Drive 50 LM / Drive 51LM Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00056-00)

This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell for the Garmin Drive 50 LM, Drive 51LM, Drive 51LMT, Drive 51LMT-S, and related navigator models. It replaces OEM part numbers 361-00056-00 and 361-00056-50. If your unit no longer holds charge through a navigation session or shuts off unexpectedly, this cell is a direct swap at the correct voltage and form factor.

  • Drive 50 and 51 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V charge rail. The BMS logic across the Drive 50 LM, Drive 51LMT, and Drive 51LMT-S is identical, so the same cell works across all of them without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge cycles on the Drive 51LMT. The BMS accepted charge from zero without triggering a fault, held the correct 4.2V peak, and discharged cleanly through the GPS receiver and display load without mid-cycle cutoff.
  • First-use satellite fix after install: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A full power interruption triggers a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Drive 51LMT

Several Drive 51 units throttle receiver sensitivity when the cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V. The GPS antenna stays active, but position accuracy degrades — you may see route snapping errors or missed turn prompts. This is a firmware-level power-saving behaviour, not a hardware fault. Keeping the cell above 3.6V under load eliminates it, which a fresh 1100mAh cell handles where a degraded original cannot.

Drive 50 LM shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

The on-screen battery gauge on the Drive 50 LM is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. An aged or mismatched cell sags voltage faster under GPS and display load, hitting the unit's 3.3V cutoff while the gauge still shows 20–30% remaining. The device cuts power instantly — no low-battery warning fires. Replacing the cell resets the actual capacity to match the gauge calibration. After the first full charge cycle on the new cell, the indicator and the real cutoff point realign.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Garmin Drive 51LMT lost all saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it happens on most Drive 51 units. The saved routes and favourites are held in battery-backed RAM — when the cell is fully removed, that memory loses power and clears. Re-entering favourites manually or syncing through Garmin Express before the swap prevents this. Export your saved places to Garmin Express first, then fit the new cell and re-import.

My Drive 50 LM is taking 8–10 minutes to get a GPS fix after the battery swap — was it like this before?

That delay is a cold start, not a fault. When the cell is removed, the GPS receiver loses its stored almanac data — the satellite position map it uses for fast locks. The unit has to rebuild that almanac from scratch on the first power-on, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view. Every fix after that drops back under a minute. Leave the unit stationary outside during that first acquisition.

Active navigation drains the new battery noticeably faster than standby — what's pulling the extra power?

The GPS receiver running continuous position fixes plus the display at full brightness together draw roughly three to four times the current of a unit sitting idle. Reducing screen brightness to 50–60% in Settings → Display is the single biggest power reduction available on the Drive 50 and 51 series. The receiver itself cannot be throttled without disabling navigation entirely, so display brightness is the variable to adjust.
