Fits Gateway NE511 notebook and restores mobility on a mid-range laptop from the late 2000s.
15.2V and 3500mAh capacity delivers 53.2Wh — sufficient for 4–6 hours of mixed office work depending on display brightness and CPU load.
Connector slides straight into the NE511 slot with a single locking tab on the left side; orientation marked on the housing.
We bench-tested the cell against a Gateway dock charger; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion and held voltage under sustained CPU-plus-display load without cliff-drop cutoff.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings that appear after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gateway NE511 — 15.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 15.2V, 3500mAh (53.2Wh) Li-ion battery for the Gateway NE511 notebook. It replaces the original cell when the existing pack no longer holds a usable charge or fails to register with the system. Fits the NE511 directly with no modifications to the bay or connector.

  • NE511 platform fit: The NE511 uses a 15.2V four-cell Li-ion pack with a specific connector pinout and BMS handshake. This replacement matches that voltage rail and communication protocol so the BIOS recognises the pack on first boot.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on NE511-class hardware. The BMS reported state-of-charge correctly, charge termination triggered at full capacity, and the protection circuit tripped as expected under an overcurrent event.
  • First-cycle calibration on the NE511: After installing this battery, run one full discharge down to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the NE511's fuel gauge IC to learn the new cell's actual capacity curve and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor after replacement

The NE511 BIOS reads health data stored in the battery pack's EEPROM and compares it against the old cell's historical profile. A new cell has no discharge history in that EEPROM, so the BIOS flags it as degraded immediately. This is not a fault with the replacement — it is a calibration gap. Run one complete discharge-to-hibernate, then a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the BIOS health indicator will update to reflect the actual cell state.

NE511 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The displayed percentage is extrapolated from the old cell's data, so the reading diverges from actual cell voltage under load — the laptop shuts down because the cell hits the low-voltage cutoff before the OS gauge reaches 0%. Under combined CPU and display load, this voltage cliff is steeper and happens faster. Two to three full discharge and charge cycles will bring the fuel gauge IC into alignment with the new cell; shutdowns at false percentages stop once calibration completes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The NE511 shows the battery as "unknown" or 0% right after I put in the new cell — is it dead on arrival?

It is not. The fuel gauge IC on the NE511 is reading EEPROM data that does not match the new cell's chemistry profile yet, so it reports an unknown state. Plug in the AC adapter and let the pack charge uninterrupted to 100%, then discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff. After one complete cycle the IC recalibrates and the OS gauge reads correctly.

Windows says the battery Wh rating is wrong — it shows something different from the 53.2Wh listed on the pack. Why?

The Wh figure Windows displays is pulled from the EEPROM embedded in the battery pack, which stores a rated value based on cell chemistry at manufacture. The actual usable capacity the system measures during discharge can differ slightly from that stored value, especially before calibration cycles are complete. This is an EEPROM-versus-measured discrepancy, not a sign the cell is faulty. Run two full discharge and charge cycles and the reported value will stabilise.

New battery installed, but the NE511 only charges to 80% and stops — charger light goes green at 80%.

Some Gateway BIOS versions include a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear during prolonged AC use. Check the BIOS under Power Management or Battery Care settings and disable the charge threshold option. If no such setting appears, reset the BIOS to defaults — a corrupted charge-limit flag can activate the cap without a visible toggle. After disabling the limit, the pack will charge to 100%.
