This 14.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original power cell in the GE MAC 2000 electrocardiograph. It fits the MAC 2000, MAC 2000 EKG, and EKG Recorder MAC 2000 variants used in clinical and portable cardiac diagnostic settings. Why the MAC 2000 shows a battery fault immediately after inserting a new cell

The MAC 2000's charge IC applies conservative acceptance thresholds calibrated to OEM cell chemistry. A new third-party cell with a slightly different internal resistance profile can trigger a fault flag on first insertion even when the cell is fully charged. This is a BMS learning behaviour, not a defective battery. One complete charge-discharge cycle clears the threshold mismatch and the fault does not recur.

MAC 2000 not powering on after battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage has dropped below approximately 10V, the MAC 2000's BMS will refuse to engage — this is a protection response, not a hardware fault. Connect the device to mains power and leave it on charge for at least two hours before attempting to boot. Once the cell recovers above the BMS recovery threshold, normal startup resumes.

The MAC 2000 is alarming low battery straight after I charged the new battery — is the cell faulty?

It is not a faulty cell. The MAC 2000's BMS uses OEM cell chemistry as its baseline for the low-battery threshold, and a new replacement cell with slightly different internal resistance can read below that threshold until the BMS calibrates to it. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before clinical use. After that cycle, the alarm clears and the device reads battery level correctly.

The MAC 2000 won't power on at all after the new battery arrived — it was in the box for a few weeks.

Cells self-discharge in transit and storage. If the voltage has dropped below the BMS recovery floor (around 10V for a 14.4V Li-ion pack), the device will not attempt to boot — it treats the cell as unsafe. Connect to mains power immediately and charge uninterrupted for two hours before pressing the power button. Do not attempt to boot during this recovery window.

The MAC 2000 is shutting off mid-recording during the first few uses — this didn't happen with the old battery.

New cells have not yet stabilised their internal resistance, so the load drawn during an active ECG recording causes a sharper voltage sag than a conditioned cell. The MAC 2000 interprets that sag as low battery and cuts out as a protective measure. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles outside of patient use to condition the cell. After conditioning, the voltage sag under load drops and mid-recording shutoffs stop.
