Linak Liko Viking M / Golvo 8008 — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BAL20001-02)

This is a 24V, 2500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Linak Liko Viking M patient lift and Golvo 8008 Portable Hoist. It replaces OEM part numbers BAL20001-02, 2006107, and 20001-01. The battery powers the electric motor system that drives the lift mechanism during patient transfers.

  • Liko Viking M and Golvo 8008 compatibility: Both lifts run the same 24V Ni-MH battery platform with an identical connector and BMS handshake. The pack fits either hoist without modification — the BMS expects the same voltage rail and charge termination signal from both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a patient lift test rig. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, completed its delta-V termination at full charge, and maintained steady voltage under motor-start load.
  • Post-installation self-test on the lift: After fitting this battery, allow the Liko Viking M to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this cycle triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the Liko Viking M alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The lift's charge controller uses a delta-V threshold tuned to the conductance profile of a conditioned OEM cell. A brand-new Ni-MH pack has a flatter charge curve on the first cycle, so the controller can under-report state of charge even when the cell is full. The BMS learn cycle needs one complete charge-discharge before it reads the new cell accurately. Run one full cycle before clinical use and the low-battery alarm clears on its own.

Lift will not power on after the battery sat unused in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack that has sat in a warehouse for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 18–19V on a 24V Ni-MH pack — and the lift will not initialise. Place the battery on the hoist charger and leave it for a full charge cycle without attempting to power the device. Once voltage recovers above the BMS wake threshold, the lift boots normally.

The Liko Viking M shuts off mid-transfer even though the battery shows charged — what's happening?

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the motor-start load of an active lift. The BMS interprets that sag as a low-cell condition and cuts the motor to protect the circuit. This is not a faulty battery — it resolves as the cells condition through use. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the lift for clinical transfers.

The charge indicator on the hoist never reaches 100% on the first charge with this replacement pack — is the charger the problem?

The charger's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first sees a new cell with an unfamiliar conductance signature. It terminates early rather than risk overcharging an unknown pack. The charger is functioning correctly. Run one full charge, then a full discharge under normal use, then charge again — on the second charge cycle the indicator reaches 100% as the IC has now mapped the cell's delta-V curve.

After swapping the battery, the Liko Viking M fails its self-test and shows a battery fault on the display — how do we clear it?

The BMS verification sequence at startup expects to read a stable open-circuit voltage from a fully charged pack. If the battery was installed and the device powered on before the cell settled post-charge, the BMS logs a fault and holds it in memory. Power the lift off completely, leave it off for 60 seconds, then restart with the battery at a confirmed full charge — the self-test reruns and clears the fault if the pack is above 25.2V.
