Fits GoPro Hero 3, Hero 3 Silver, and Hero 3 White Edition; replaces AHDBT-201, AHDBT-301, and AHDBT-302 battery packs.
3.7V, 1180mAh capacity delivers the same energy envelope as OEM cells for comparable shot count on video recording.
Connector slides straight into the battery door slot with a single locking tab; no force needed on insertion or removal.
We ran this cell through five full cycles in a Hero 3 Silver body; the BMS accepted the new pack on first charge without display errors.
On your first charge, insert this cell directly into the camera body and run one full charge cycle there—the Hero 3 BMS needs that handshake to map battery percentage accurately on the LCD screen.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GoPro Hero 3 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AHDBT-201 / AHDBT-301)

This is a 3.7V, 1180mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original battery in the GoPro Hero 3, Hero3 White Edition, Hero3 Silver Edition, and related HD Hero3 variants. It matches the OEM voltage and physical dimensions exactly — 36.77 × 28.80 × 13.21mm — so it slots into the same battery door without modification. Capacity is rated at 4.37Wh.

  • Hero 3 series compatibility: The Hero 3, Hero3 White, and Hero3 Silver all share the same battery bay geometry and voltage rail. OEM part numbers AHDBT-201 and AHDBT-301 cross-reference the same physical cell across these models, so one replacement covers the full lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Hero 3 body and monitored BMS handshake on first insertion. The camera accepted the cell without error, cycled charge correctly via USB, and the battery indicator tracked consistently across discharge.
  • First-use charge cycle on the Hero 3: Slot the battery into the camera body and run a full charge through the camera itself — not a third-party external charger — before your first shoot. The Hero 3's BMS maps its battery-remaining display against an internal charge profile, and this single in-body cycle anchors that calibration accurately.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Hero 3 display

The Hero 3 tracks remaining charge by mapping voltage thresholds against a stored discharge curve from the OEM cell. A new replacement cell has a slightly different discharge curve shape, so the voltage-to-percentage mapping can look erratic — jumping from 80% to 40% without warning. This is not a fault in the replacement cell. One full discharge-to-empty followed by a complete in-body recharge resets the mapping and the display stabilises.

Hero 3 showing dead battery icon on a partially charged replacement

Some Hero 3 bodies display a dead battery icon immediately after a new cell is inserted, even when the cell carries a charge. The camera's BMS compares the cell's resting voltage against an acceptance threshold — if the cell shipped partially discharged, the resting voltage may sit just below that threshold. Place the cell in the camera, connect USB charging, and let it charge for at least 10 minutes. Resting voltage at full charge should read approximately 4.2V, at which point the camera accepts the cell and boots normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Hero 3 shows a dead battery screen right after I put in the new battery — is the cell dead on arrival?

It is not dead. The Hero 3 BMS checks resting voltage on insertion, and a new cell that shipped at storage charge (around 3.6–3.7V) can fall just below the camera's acceptance threshold. Connect the camera to USB power with the new cell installed and let it charge for 10–15 minutes. Once resting voltage climbs above approximately 3.8V, the camera will boot and accept the cell normally.

The battery percentage on my Hero 3 drops suddenly mid-shoot — goes from 60% to 10% in seconds. What's happening?

The Hero 3's percentage display is mapped against the discharge curve of the original OEM cell. A replacement cell with a slightly different curve shape causes the voltage-to-percentage translation to misfire at certain thresholds, producing sudden jumps. Run one complete discharge cycle — shoot until the camera shuts itself off — then do a full in-body recharge. After that single calibration cycle the indicator tracks the actual charge state accurately.

Shot count is lower than I expected in cold weather. Is this a weak cell or normal behaviour?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops — internal resistance rises and the BMS cuts off discharge earlier to protect the cell. At 0°C a 1180mAh cell can deliver noticeably fewer frames and shorter clips than at room temperature, and this applies to both OEM and replacement cells equally. Keep the spare cell in an inside pocket close to your body between uses; a warm cell inserted just before a shoot will hold its rated voltage much closer to spec.
