This is an 11.4V, 4000mAh (45.6Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the HP ProBook 430 G4, 440 G4, 450 G4, and 455 G4. It matches the original cell's voltage rail, connector, and BMS handshake. Install it when the factory battery no longer holds charge or fails to power the system.

  • ProBook 430–455 G4 platform fit: The G4-generation ProBook 430, 440, 450, and 455 share the same 11.4V three-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BIOS battery communication protocol — which is why one cell covers all four models without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a ProBook 450 G4. The BMS handshook within one boot cycle, BIOS reported capacity correctly after a full charge, and the charge controller accepted a full 4000mAh fill without fault codes.
  • First-cycle calibration on the ProBook G4: After installing, run the laptop on battery until it hibernates at low charge, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

Why the ProBook G4 reports poor battery health immediately after a cell swap

The ProBook G4 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers on the battery controller, not from live voltage measurements. When a new cell arrives with factory EEPROM values that don't match the system's stored charge history, the BIOS flags it as degraded. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the cell itself. One complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% rewrites the learn cycle and clears the warning.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS fuel gauge was mapped to the old cell's discharge profile and cuts power when voltage drops below the threshold it expects at a much lower state of charge. The fix is two to three full discharge-and-recharge cycles, which force the fuel gauge IC to rebuild its calibration table against the new cell. After calibration, the shutdown point should align with the actual remaining charge — verify by checking that reported voltage at shutdown is above 10.8V.

It isn't faulty. The HP BIOS reads health status from EEPROM registers carried over from the old cell, and a fresh cell ships with factory values that don't match the system's stored history. The battery info screen in Windows shows a Wh rating that doesn't match the 45.6Wh listed on the cell — why are the numbers different?

The Wh figure Windows reports is pulled from EEPROM data embedded in the battery controller, which stores the manufacturer's rated chemistry values. The actual cell chemistry and the EEPROM-coded rating can differ slightly between production batches. This is a reporting difference, not a capacity loss — confirm the real capacity by running a full discharge cycle and checking how much energy the system logs consumed before hibernate.

After a few weeks of use, the charge percentage on my ProBook 450 G4 is jumping around — it reads 60%, then suddenly drops to 35% with no warning.

The fuel gauge IC inside the battery controller uses a charge model built around the original cell's discharge curve. A new Li-Polymer cell has a slightly different voltage-to-capacity slope, so the gauge reads inaccurately until it recalibrates. Run three complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles back to back. After three cycles the fuel gauge IC rebuilds its lookup table against the new cell and the percentage readings stabilise.
