Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the old, degraded cell. The percentage shown no longer maps correctly to actual cell voltage. Under combined CPU and display load, the cell hits its low-voltage floor while the OS still shows significant charge remaining. Run a full discharge-to-hibernate cycle — without interrupting it — followed by a complete charge to 100%. After two to three full cycles, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell and shutdowns at falsely-low percentages stop. If the issue persists past three cycles, check the BIOS battery threshold setting — it should be set to 0% on this platform, not 20%.

Why does Lenovo Vantage show the wrong Wh rating after I installed this battery?

The Wh figure shown in Vantage pulls from the EEPROM data embedded in the battery cell, not from a live measurement. The rated Wh in that EEPROM can differ slightly from the actual chemistry value depending on when the cell was manufactured and how the firmware reads it. This is a display discrepancy only — it does not affect charging or protection circuit behaviour. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate and charge cycle and check whether the value updates; on most IdeaPad 100-15 units it corrects itself after the BIOS completes its learn cycle.

The battery percentage jumps around wildly for the first few days — is the cell faulty?

The fuel gauge IC on the IdeaPad 100-15 mainboard was calibrated to the old cell's internal resistance and capacity curve. After a cell swap, it has no accurate reference point, so percentage readings can skip by 10–15% in a single minute under load. This is normal for the first two to three charge cycles. Do not interrupt the discharge or charge — let the laptop reach hibernate-cutoff naturally, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The fuel gauge IC recalibrates itself against the new cell's voltage curve across those cycles and readings stabilise.

Charging stopped at 80% and won't go higher — what's blocking it?

The IdeaPad 100-15 BIOS includes a firmware-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% when Conservation Mode is enabled in Lenovo Vantage. This is a BIOS setting, not a battery fault. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power, select Battery Settings, and switch from Conservation Mode to Normal Mode. Charging will resume to 100% on the next cycle.
