This is a 2.4V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Huawei FH88, F688, and F688-20 cordless phone handsets. It replaces OEM part number HNBAAA6-21. The cell pack matches the original's footprint at 45.60 × 21.00 × 10.60mm, so it fits the handset battery compartment without modification.

  • FH88, F688, and F688-20 compatibility: These three handset models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 2.4V supply rail. All three accept this pack without adapter or wiring changes.

Range dropping on the FH88 after a battery swap

The FH88 DECT transmitter draws a short current spike each time it sends a radio burst to the base station. When a NiMH pack is low on charge or hasn't been fully conditioned, its internal resistance causes voltage to sag under that RF load. The handset's transmit power drops with the voltage, which shortens the effective range even if the handset appears to be on. Charge the pack fully — base station indicator solid green — before testing range.

Base station charge light stays off after fitting new battery

NiMH batteries lose voltage during long-term storage. If the pack voltage sits below approximately 2.0V when it arrives, some Huawei base stations won't begin the charge cycle — they read the pack as faulty rather than depleted. The fix is to seat the handset firmly, wait 10 minutes, then reseat it. This resets the base station's charge controller and it will usually pick up a low-voltage NiMH pack on the second attempt.

Almost certainly not — this is normal NiMH behaviour for the first few cycles. NiMH cells don't reach full rated capacity until they've been fully charged and discharged three to five times. Run the handset until it drops the call, then return it to the base for a full charge each time. By cycle five, talk time should match or exceed what you saw with the original pack.

The FH88 handset lost its pairing with the base station when I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts power completely to the handset, and some Huawei DECT handsets drop their stored pairing data when power is lost. Re-register the handset through the base station menu: on most F688 bases, hold the paging button on the base for five seconds until the LED flashes, then navigate to the handset's menu under Settings > Register Handset and confirm. The handset will re-pair within 30 seconds.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the FH88 handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This usually means the handset isn't making proper contact with the base charging pins. Check that the handset is fully seated — a slight tilt or debris on the charging contacts stops the charge circuit from engaging. Clean the gold contacts on both the handset base and the cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light comes on. If the light still doesn't show, check that the base station has power at the wall socket.
