Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HYT TB-61 Handheld Scanner — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (TB-61)
This is a 3.6V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for HYT handheld barcode scanners using part numbers TB-61 and BNH-TC1688. It fits HYT scanning devices used in retail, warehouse, and inventory environments. Capacity is rated at 6.48Wh from the factory spec sheet.
- TB-61 and BNH-TC1688 platform: Both part numbers reference the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake — the scanner's charge controller recognises either and completes the charge cycle without throwing a fault code.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the HYT charge protocol and confirmed the BMS held a stable cutoff at the correct termination voltage. No false charge-complete triggers appeared during the delta-V detection phase.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum, and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.
Cradle showing charging error on a fresh pack
Ni-MH docks use delta-V detection to confirm a real battery is seated. A new cell at rest voltage can confuse the dock's sense circuit if contact resistance is high — the dock sees an unstable voltage curve and flags it as an error. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. The dock should begin the charge cycle within 10 seconds of a clean connection.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
Back-to-back scans combine imager power draw with the wireless radio polling cycle — both hit the cell at the same time. On a depleted or degraded pack, this combined inrush causes momentary voltage sag below the scanner's radio-keep-alive threshold, dropping the wireless link. The fix is to ensure the pack is fully charged before a high-volume shift and to avoid running the battery below the low-battery warning indicator during continuous scanning. A rested, fully charged 1800mAh cell holds the voltage rail above 3.2V through the combined load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HYT scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The imager or laser needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new Ni-MH cell shipped in storage state may sit too low to meet that threshold. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before attempting any scans. Ni-MH packs can arrive at around 30–40% capacity after storage, which is enough to power the display but not the imager inrush. Once the pack reaches full charge and the dock indicator clears, the scanner should read normally.
The cradle shows a charging error every time I seat the new battery — how do I fix it?
High contact resistance between the battery terminals and the cradle's spring contacts is the most common cause. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry cloth to clear any oxidation or debris, then press the battery firmly back into the dock. If the error clears within 10 seconds, the connection was the issue. If it persists, check that the dock firmware is not expecting a proprietary handshake — a standard TB-61 pack communicates over the same two-pin contact as the original.
The scanner feels warm after a long warehouse shift — is that normal for this battery?
Sustained scanning combined with continuous wireless polling generates more heat than intermittent use, and the enclosed housing of a handheld scanner traps that heat. This is a load and ventilation issue, not a battery defect. The TB-61 Ni-MH chemistry operates safely up to around 45°C — warm to the touch is within spec. If the housing becomes too hot to hold comfortably, reduce scan burst frequency or allow a 5-minute rest before resuming heavy use.
