Fits Intermec SF61 and SF61b barcode scanners replacing OEM part 1016AB01.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 2600mAh delivers 9.62Wh — sufficient for full shift scanning and wireless polling in retail and warehouse environments.
Connector seats into the scanner battery slot with positive terminal facing outward; locking tab secures the pack flush against the housing.
We bench-tested this cell in an SF61 dock — BMS accepted charge handshake on first insertion, voltage curve stable across 20 cycles, no early cutoff observed.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec SF61 / SF61b — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1016AB01)

This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion cell built to the same spec as the OEM pack for the Intermec SF61 and SF61b handheld barcode scanners. It fits both the standard SF61 and the SF61b variant without modification. Voltage and capacity match the original: 3.7V nominal, 9.62Wh.

  • SF61 and SF61b compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V single-cell architecture with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. The same pack works in either unit — the firmware reads cell voltage and charge state through the same communication line.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the SF61 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, reported state-of-charge correctly to the scanner's status indicator, and handled the inrush from the scan trigger without tripping a protection event.
  • First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack use: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips during the opening burst of a busy pick run.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The SF61 cradle reads pack voltage through pogo-pin contacts on the battery base. If those contacts have oxidation or debris from shelf storage, the dock reports a charging fault even though the pack is electrically sound. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until the charge LED changes state. If the error clears within 30 seconds, the pack is fine — the fault was contact resistance, not a cell problem.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The SF61 runs its radio and scan engine simultaneously during high-frequency scanning. The combined current draw — scan trigger inrush plus sustained wireless polling — can pull cell voltage below the radio's minimum operating threshold if the pack is below roughly 3.5V. The scanner reconnects once the load drops, but the wireless session resets each time. Keep the pack above 50% charge during high-frequency scan tasks to stay clear of that voltage floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SF61 is scanning fine but keeps dropping off the wireless network mid-shift — could the battery be the cause?

Yes, and it's a specific load pattern that causes it. The SF61 pulls current for both the scan engine and the wireless radio simultaneously; during rapid scan bursts, that combined draw can dip cell voltage below the radio's minimum threshold, which drops the connection. The scanner recovers once the load eases, but the session resets each time. Keep the pack charged above 50% during high-frequency scan operations — that keeps cell voltage above 3.5V and prevents the radio cutoff.

The cradle is flashing a charge error on the new battery but the old pack charges fine in the same dock — what's wrong?

This is almost always contact resistance, not a faulty cell. The cradle reads pack status through pogo pins, and new batteries often have a light oxide layer on the gold contacts from packaging and shelf time. Wipe the contacts on both the battery base and the cradle dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner until the LED changes. If the fault clears within 30 seconds, the pack is good — swap the old battery back only if the error persists after cleaning.

The SF61 feels noticeably warm after a long warehouse shift — is that a battery issue or something else?

Warmth after an extended shift is normal for this form factor. The SF61 houses the battery, scan engine, and wireless radio in a compact sealed shell with limited airflow, so sustained draw from all three generates heat that has nowhere to go. The cell itself stays within safe operating range under normal warehouse use. If the housing is hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold — not just warm — check that the scan trigger isn't stuck partially engaged, which keeps the scan engine drawing current continuously.
