Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Point Mobile PM450 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (450-BTEC)
This is a 3.7V, 6800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Point Mobile PM450 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the PM450 directly and matches the OEM part number 450-BTEC. Capacity is 25.16Wh — same spec as the factory pack.
- PM450 platform fit: The PM450 uses a keyed battery bay with a specific connector layout and BMS handshake. This pack replicates the OEM voltage rail and communication protocol, so the device recognises it on insertion without prompting a fault code.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a PM450 unit. The BMS held stable across scan trigger bursts and Wi-Fi polling intervals, with no mid-cycle cutoffs or erratic state-of-charge readings on the device screen.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before putting it into pick-and-pack rotation. The scan trigger draws the highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack on the first shift prevents the BMS from tripping on that initial load spike.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
A charging error on a fresh pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a fault with the battery or dock electronics. The PM450 cradle reads pack state through the same gold pogo contacts it uses to charge — if those contacts have oxidation or debris, the dock throws an error before current even flows. Wipe the contacts on the battery and the cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly until it clicks. If the error clears, charge proceeds normally; if it persists, check that the cradle firmware is current, as older versions can misread a new pack's initial voltage as out-of-range.
Scanner losing Wi-Fi connection during rapid scan bursts
On the PM450, simultaneous scan trigger activation and Wi-Fi transmission create a combined inrush that briefly sags the voltage rail. If the cell voltage is already low, this sag can cross the BMS low-voltage threshold, causing the radio to drop before the cell actually hits cutoff. The result is a momentary disconnection mid-burst — users often blame the access point, but the cause is on the battery side. Keep the pack above 20% charge during high-frequency scanning runs, and check the device's reported battery voltage in Settings — if it reads below 3.5V under load, swap the pack before the next shift.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PM450 stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The imager and laser in the PM450 need a stable voltage above a minimum threshold to fire correctly — if the replacement pack shipped with a low state of charge, the scan trigger inrush can cause the imager to cut out before a read completes. Place the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before attempting to scan. Once fully charged, the imager should fire consistently. If it still fails to read after a full charge, check the device's battery status screen — a healthy pack should report above 3.6V at rest.
The PM450 feels noticeably warm after a long warehouse shift — is that normal with this battery?
Some warmth is expected — the PM450 housing is compact, and sustained scanning combined with continuous Wi-Fi polling generates heat that builds up with nowhere to dissipate. What you want to avoid is heat that persists for more than a few minutes after the device goes idle, which points to a cell under excessive load. Check whether the scan frequency or wireless polling interval has increased — both directly raise current draw. If the device is warm to the point of discomfort, pull the battery and check the contacts for debris that could be increasing resistance at the terminal.
The replacement battery doesn't last as long through a shift as the original did — what's causing that?
Scan burst frequency and Wi-Fi polling rate are the two biggest variables that affect shift endurance on the PM450, and both can change without anyone noticing — a firmware update or a new warehouse layout with weaker signal coverage can significantly increase radio transmit power. First, confirm the device is reporting the full 6800mAh capacity in the battery info screen; a new pack reading significantly lower than that points to a cell calibration issue, which a full discharge-to-cutoff followed by a complete recharge will usually correct. If capacity reads correctly but endurance is still short, reduce the Wi-Fi roaming aggressiveness in the device network settings to lower background radio draw.
