Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Intermec Thor CV31 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1021AB01)
This 3.7V 3350mAh Li-ion battery replaces the internal power cell in the Intermec Thor CV31 vehicle-mounted terminal. It fits the CV31 directly and matches OEM part numbers 1021AB01, VE33-8020-A0, and 213-042-001. Capacity is 12.4Wh — identical to the original specification.
- Thor CV31 vehicle terminal fit: The CV31 uses a dedicated internal battery with a specific BMS handshake tied to its power management controller. This cell matches the voltage rail and connector profile the terminal expects, so the BMS initialises correctly on first insertion.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the CV31 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, voltage held stable under the terminal's boot sequence draw, and the protection circuit responded correctly to both charge cutoff and low-voltage events.
- Hot-swap charge requirement on the CV31: The CV31 draws peak current during boot — up to 10 seconds of sustained load. If you are using this cell as a hot-swap bridge during ignition cycles, charge it fully before installation. A partially charged cell may drop below the terminal's minimum boot voltage mid-sequence and fail to bridge the gap.
Why the Thor CV31 loses data during vehicle ignition start
When the vehicle cranks, the main supply voltage dips — sometimes to near zero for 2–4 seconds. The CV31 relies on its internal battery to bridge that gap and keep the terminal alive. If the internal battery is degraded or below roughly 3.4V, it cannot supply enough current to sustain the terminal through the ignition transient. The result is a cold boot, which wipes volatile memory and any unsaved session data. Replacing a degraded cell with a fully charged 3350mAh unit eliminates the drop-out.
Thor CV31 not booting when disconnected from vehicle power
The CV31 requires a minimum battery voltage — typically above 3.2V — to initiate its boot sequence. A deeply discharged or end-of-life cell may sit below this threshold and show no response when the terminal is powered on without the vehicle supply connected. Reconnect the terminal to vehicle power for at least 30 minutes to bring the cell above the boot voltage floor, then attempt startup. If the cell still won't hold above 3.2V under load, replacement is the correct fix — not further charging.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Thor CV31 loses its scan data every time I start the truck — why does this keep happening?
The ignition crank drops vehicle supply voltage for 2–4 seconds, and the CV31's internal battery is supposed to bridge that gap. If the battery is degraded, it can't sustain the terminal through the transient, so the unit cold-boots and clears volatile memory. We tested this cell on the CV31 bench rig — a fully charged 3350mAh cell holds the terminal alive through a simulated 4-second supply drop without rebooting. Fit a new cell and charge it fully before the first ignition cycle.
The hot-swap battery in my CV31 doesn't seem to be keeping the terminal alive during battery swaps — it just reboots anyway.
The CV31 draws a surge of current during its boot sequence, and a hot-swap cell that isn't at full charge may drop below the terminal's minimum operating voltage within the first few seconds. A partially charged cell — even one that reads 3.5V at rest — can sag under that load and cause an unintended reboot. Always charge the hot-swap cell to full capacity before installing it, and confirm resting voltage is at or above 3.7V before swapping. That gives the terminal the headroom it needs to stay live through the transition.
My CV31 takes a long time to come back after a power interruption — is something wrong with the battery?
Nothing is wrong — the CV31 boot sequence genuinely takes 30–60 seconds because the terminal is reinitialising its operating environment, reloading firmware, and re-establishing any wireless connections. That delay is normal and is not caused by battery condition. What the battery affects is whether the terminal reaches that boot sequence at all — a degraded cell that can't sustain the required voltage during startup will stall the boot partway through or loop back to the start. If you see the screen go blank and restart mid-boot, check that resting battery voltage is above 3.4V before powering on.
