Fits iRobot Roomba 400, Roomba 4000, Roomba 4905 and compatible models — replaces OEM part 11700 and 17373.
14.4V 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sustained voltage to motor and navigation circuits under carpet load.
Connector seats vertically into battery compartment with positive contact forward — locking tab clips down to secure pack.
We bench-tested this cell on a Roomba 400 platform — BMS accepted the pack on first charge cycle with no fault codes.
Do not leave this vacuum on the dock continuously after charging — Ni-MH cells develop capacity fade under trickle charge, so remove the pack once full.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

iRobot Roomba 400 Series — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (11700)

This 14.4V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original cell pack in the iRobot Roomba 400 series robotic vacuum. It fits the Roomba 400, 4000, 4905, APS 4905, and over 29 additional models that share the same voltage rail and connector. Drop capacity is matched to the OEM specification at 2000mAh (28.8Wh).

  • Roomba 400 series platform fit: Every model in this lineup runs the same 14.4V battery bus, uses the same physical connector, and communicates with the same BMS logic — so one cell pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the Roomba 400 platform. The BMS accepted the handshake without fault codes, and current draw under motor load stayed within the rated window across multiple cleaning passes.
  • Dock charging behaviour on Ni-MH cells: Do not leave the Roomba sitting on the dock between cleaning sessions. Ni-MH cells are particularly vulnerable to trickle-charge damage from continuous dock contact — charge fully, then remove the unit from the dock until the next run.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The Roomba's motor draws significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked or airflow is restricted. Under that increased load, the cell voltage sags early — the indicator still reads mid-range, but the motor no longer receives enough voltage to maintain suction pressure. This is a load-sag issue, not a capacity issue. Clean the filter and check the brushroll for hair wrap before concluding the battery is at fault.

Motor cutting out mid-cycle and then recovering on its own

This pattern points to a BMS overcurrent trip rather than a dead cell. When the brushroll or intake is obstructed, sustained high current triggers the BMS protection circuit, which cuts power momentarily then resets. The unit resumes once the trip clears, giving the impression of a faulty battery. Clear any blockage at the brushroll and intake port, then verify the filter is clean — overcurrent trips should stop once airflow restriction drops back within the motor's rated draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Roomba 400 loses suction halfway through a run even though the battery indicator isn't showing low — is the new battery faulty?

Almost always, this is voltage sag under motor load rather than a weak cell. A partially blocked filter or tangled brushroll forces the motor to draw more current than rated, which pulls the pack voltage down early even when capacity looks fine. Clean the filter and clear the brushroll before writing off the battery. If suction stays consistent after that, the pack is working correctly.

The Roomba cuts out for a few seconds mid-clean, then starts again on its own — what's causing that?

That stop-and-restart pattern is the BMS overcurrent protection tripping and resetting. It happens when a restriction — packed filter, hair-wrapped brushroll, or partial blockage at the intake — causes sustained current to spike beyond the circuit's threshold. The BMS cuts power to protect the cells, then resets once the surge clears. Remove the brushroll, clear any debris at the intake, and replace the filter if it's overdue — the trips should stop once current draw returns to normal.

The replacement battery charged overnight but the Roomba runs noticeably shorter than it used to with a new OEM pack — why?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of accelerated capacity fade on Ni-MH Roomba packs. Leaving the unit on the dock between every session exposes the cells to constant low-level charge current, which degrades capacity faster than normal cycling. Charge this replacement fully, then remove the Roomba from the dock — only return it to charge when the pack is depleted. Capacity should stabilise once you move to charge-and-remove cycles.
