Fits Klarstein Cleanmate and Cleanfriend Veluce R290 robotic vacuums; replaces OEM battery CS-IRB530VX.
14.4V and 2800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 40.32Wh total energy for autonomous floor cleaning cycles.
Connector slides straight onto dock contacts with positive and negative terminals aligned; locking tab engages automatically.
We bench-tested this cell on the dock charger for full cycle acceptance; BMS accepted voltage handshake without fault codes.
Remove the vacuum from the charging dock immediately after reaching full charge — continuous trickle charging collapses Ni-MH capacity within weeks.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Klarstein Cleanmate / Cleanfriend Veluce R290 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 2800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Klarstein Cleanmate and Cleanfriend Veluce R290 robotic vacuum cleaners. It slots into the battery compartment directly and restores power to the drive motors and navigation system. Capacity is 2800mAh (40.32Wh), matching the original cell specification.

  • Cleanmate and Veluce R290 fit: Both models run the same 14.4V battery platform with an identical connector layout and BMS communication protocol. A single replacement cell covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge passes on the Cleanmate platform. The BMS accepted the handshake cleanly — no false low-battery cutoffs and no thermal shutdowns during sustained motor draw on hard floor and carpet transitions.
  • Dock charging practice for Ni-MH cells: Ni-MH chemistry in robotic vacuums is particularly sensitive to continuous dock charging. Leaving the unit on the dock permanently triggers a slow trickle charge that degrades cell capacity faster than normal use cycles. Charge to full, then remove the unit from the dock until the next clean is needed.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The Cleanmate's motor draws significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked or the intake path is restricted. Under that extra load, the battery voltage sags earlier than the indicator circuit expects, so the vacuum loses suction while the gauge still shows a mid-level charge. The BMS reads the voltage sag as a near-depleted cell and reduces power delivery to protect the pack. Clean the filter and clear the intake before assuming the battery is the fault — a restricted motor pulling above rated current will drain even a new cell faster than the indicator tracks.

Replacement battery not charging on the dock

Some Klarstein charger units expect a specific voltage response from the battery during the initial charge handshake. If the replacement cell sits at a lower resting voltage after shipping and storage, the charger may not trigger its charge cycle. Remove the battery, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then reseat it on the dock. If the charge indicator still does not activate, confirm the dock output is at the rated 16–17V DC using a multimeter before concluding the battery is at fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cleanmate cuts out mid-clean and then starts again after a few seconds — is this the battery failing?

That stop-start pattern is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor strains against the restriction and pulls more current than the BMS allows, so it shuts the pack down briefly then resets. Clean the filter and check the brush roll for hair wrap before swapping the battery. If the cutouts stop after clearing the restriction, the battery was fine all along.

My Cleanmate's suction feels weak even though the battery indicator still shows a strong charge — what's happening?

This is motor voltage sag under load. The Ni-MH pack delivers its rated voltage cleanly at low draw, but under the sustained current the motor needs on carpet, terminal voltage drops and power output falls before the indicator circuit registers it as low. A worn or heavily cycled Ni-MH cell shows this symptom first — resting voltage looks normal but loaded voltage collapses. Check the cell's loaded voltage under motor draw; anything below 12V under load on a 14.4V Ni-MH pack means the cell needs replacing.

This replacement battery faded noticeably after only a few months — was it a dud cell?

Probably not. Ni-MH cells in robotic vacuums degrade quickly when left on the dock continuously between cleans. The charger delivers a low-level trickle charge that slowly breaks down cell capacity over weeks. Pull the Cleanmate off the dock once the charge cycle completes and only return it to dock when it needs a full charge. Following that pattern, a 2800mAh Ni-MH cell should hold close to rated capacity across several hundred cycles.
