This is a 14.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Klarstein M-288 and Cleanfriend Cleaner M-488 cordless vacuum cleaners. It slots into the original battery compartment and restores power to the motor drive circuit. Capacity is 2000mAh (28.8Wh), matching the stock specification.

  • M-288 and M-488 platform fit: Both models share the same 14.4V motor rail, battery form factor, and connector orientation. A single cell spec covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the M-288 motor circuit. The BMS held voltage within spec under sustained suction load and triggered no false overcurrent cutoffs on clean filters.
  • Dock charging practice for this vacuum: Do not leave the M-288 sitting on the charging dock after the cell reaches full charge. Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums develop capacity fade noticeably faster under continuous trickle charge. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The M-288 motor draws higher current the moment airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling the cell voltage down faster than the indicator circuit registers. The result is a noticeable suction drop while the LED still shows adequate charge. This is not a cell defect. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest. If suction recovers immediately after filter service, the battery is fine.

Motor cutting out mid-use then recovering after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a loose connection. When the vacuum runs sustained suction against a blockage or heavily loaded carpet, current draw spikes past the BMS threshold and the circuit opens to protect the cell. The BMS resets automatically once current drops, which is why the motor restarts seconds later. Clear any blockage, check the filter is seated correctly, and verify the cell is above 12.5V resting before the next run.

Not necessarily. A restricted filter forces the motor to draw more current, which pulls cell voltage down faster than the indicator tracks. The indicator reads state-of-charge, not motor load — so suction fades while the LED still looks fine. Clean the filter first and retest; if suction holds longer, the cell is not the problem.

The motor on my M-288 cuts out for a few seconds then comes back on — what's happening?

That's the BMS tripping on an overcurrent spike, typically caused by a blockage or a clogged filter pushing motor draw past the protection threshold. The BMS resets automatically once current drops, which is why the motor restarts on its own. Check the filter and clear any blockage in the suction path. If it still cuts out on an unobstructed run, check resting cell voltage — it should read above 12.5V before use.

My replacement battery isn't holding as much charge as it did when new — has it faded already?

Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums fade quickly when left on the charging dock continuously. The dock delivers a trickle charge after the cell is full, and sustained trickle charge is one of the fastest ways to degrade Ni-MH capacity. Charge only when the cell is depleted, and remove the vacuum from the dock once charging is complete. Following this cycle consistently will keep capacity closer to the rated 2000mAh for significantly longer.
