Fits i.Trek M3 BT GPS handheld navigator; replaces OEM part numbers NTA2236 and LIN302.
3.7V 1800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full power to GPS receiver and display without voltage sag during satellite acquisition.
Connector slides into battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush when fully inserted into device housing.
We ran this cell through five charge cycles on the standard M3 charger; BMS accepted handshake without fault codes and held voltage stable during active GPS mode.
After installing this cell, power the M3 fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before navigation—GPS performs a five-to-ten minute cold start after power interruption versus under one minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

i.Trek M3 BT GPS — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NTA2236)

This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the i.Trek M3 BT GPS handheld navigator. It fits the compact M3 BT GPS unit used for hiking, geocaching, and travel navigation. Dimensions are 52.98 × 35.39 × 11.61mm — confirm against your existing cell before fitting.

  • M3 BT GPS fit: The M3 BT GPS uses a single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V nominal. This cell matches that voltage rail and the original connector orientation, so the BMS handshake completes without fault flags on power-up.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the M3 BT GPS platform. The onboard BMS accepted the cell, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff held at the expected threshold without premature shutdown.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors in open sky and let it run until it acquires a satellite fix. The M3 BT GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix can take 5–10 minutes versus under a minute on a warm start.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the M3 BT GPS

As cell voltage drops toward the low-voltage cutoff threshold, some GPS receivers reduce RF front-end sensitivity to conserve current draw. On the M3 BT GPS this can widen position error before the low-battery indicator even triggers. You may notice the fix drifting or the unit struggling to hold lock in moderate tree cover. Keep the cell above 3.6V during active navigation to maintain full receiver sensitivity.

M3 BT GPS shuts off without warning before the battery indicator empties

A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than a degraded original battery. The M3 BT GPS fuel gauge is calibrated against a worn cell's curve, so the visual indicator can read one or two bars remaining while actual voltage has already hit the BMS cutoff threshold. The device then shuts off abruptly with no final warning. Run two or three full charge-to-cutoff cycles to let the gauge re-calibrate against the new cell's curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My i.Trek M3 BT GPS lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The M3 BT GPS stores some route and POI data in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data is cleared. Save any critical routes to your PC via the sync software before pulling the battery, then reload them after the new cell is fitted.

After fitting the new battery, the M3 BT GPS is taking forever to get a GPS fix — what's happening?

This is a cold start. Any full power interruption clears the almanac and ephemeris data the GPS receiver uses to locate satellites quickly. Without that cached data, the unit has to download it fresh from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes in open sky. Step outside away from buildings, leave the unit powered on and stationary, and the fix time drops back to under a minute on the next power cycle.

The M3 BT GPS battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to just carrying it in my pack — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously, which together draw significantly more current than standby. The display backlight alone can account for a large portion of active current draw. Reduce screen brightness to the lowest usable level and set the backlight timeout as short as practical — those two changes cut active current draw more than any other single adjustment.
