Fits Globalstar BT-338, BT-318, BT-318X, BT-335 satellite communicators; replaces OEM part NTA2236.
3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell restores full messaging and SOS transmission capacity on Globalstar two-way units.
Connector seats flush into the BT-338 battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages on insertion.
Bench testing showed clean BMS activation on first charge with no early cutoff or voltage sag during active transmission.
After fitting this cell, power the communicator fully on outdoors and allow satellite lock acquisition before field use — the unit performs a cold start after battery swap that takes 5–10 minutes for first fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Globalstar BT-338 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NTA2236)

This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original NTA2236 battery in the Globalstar BT-338, BT-318, BT-318X, and BT-335 satellite communicators. These devices provide two-way messaging and emergency SOS via satellite in areas with no cellular coverage. Fit this cell when your unit no longer holds a charge through a full day of off-grid use.

  • BT-338 / BT-318 / BT-318X / BT-335 compatibility: All four models run the same 3.7V power rail and use the same NTA2236 cell format with a matching connector and BMS handshake, so one cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a BT-338 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before your trip and let it acquire a full satellite fix. A cold start after complete power removal takes 5–10 minutes for first lock — far longer than the under-one-minute warm starts the device normally performs.

Voltage-threshold indicator drift on the BT-338 after cell replacement

The BT-338 calibrates its fuel gauge against the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell can cause the indicator to read differently until the unit completes one or two full charge-discharge cycles. During this period the battery percentage shown on screen may not match actual remaining capacity. Run the unit down to auto-shutoff and then charge it fully twice to let the gauge recalibrate against the new cell's curve.

BT-338 shuts off without a low-battery warning

This happens when the fuel gauge threshold is uncalibrated and the cell voltage drops to the BMS cutoff — around 3.0V — before the device registers a low-battery alert. The unit sees enough voltage to run, then hits cutoff abruptly. It is not a fault with the cell itself. Complete two full charge-discharge cycles so the device can re-anchor its shutoff warning to the correct voltage point on the new cell's discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BT-338 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The BT-338 stores some route and waypoint data in RAM that requires continuous power to retain. A full battery removal clears that memory. Before swapping cells, export your routes to the Globalstar app or paired device — anything not backed up externally will need to be re-entered after a cold power loss.

Satellite lock is taking 8–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery triggers a cold start, which forces the GPS receiver to re-download almanac and ephemeris data from scratch rather than using cached satellite positions. This takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent locks after the unit has been in use will return to under one minute.

My BT-338 drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just on standby — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and display simultaneously, which draws significantly more current than standby mode where the receiver polls infrequently and the screen dims or sleeps. At maximum display brightness with continuous satellite polling, current draw can be three to four times higher than standby. Reduce screen brightness and set the display timeout to the shortest acceptable interval to extend time between charges on long off-grid trips.
