Fits JBL Free, Free X, and Free Truly wireless earbuds; replaces OEM part GSP853450.
3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers rated capacity for full earbud playback and wireless range.
Connector seats flush into the earbud battery slot with no locking tab; orientation marked on cell.
Bench tested on JBL Free base-station charging cycle; BMS accepted handshake without fault on first insertion.
Charge the earbud in the base station for one complete cycle before extended use — JBL base logs new cell voltage profile and recalibrates talk-time display over the first three cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JBL Free / Free X Truly Wireless — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GSP853450)

This 3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the GSP853450 battery inside JBL Free and Free X Truly Wireless earbuds. It fits the left or right earbud housing and restores playback capacity lost to cell degradation. Dimensions are 38.00 × 36.50 × 8.00mm — measure your existing cell before ordering if you are unsure which earbud is failing.

  • Free and Free X compatibility: Both models share the same earbud housing geometry, 3.7V power rail, and GSP853450 footprint. The BMS logic inside each earbud accepts the replacement cell without firmware intervention.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the cell through charge and discharge on a Free earbud. The onboard BMS accepted the new cell, held cutoff at 4.2V charge ceiling, and triggered low-voltage protection at 3.0V with no anomalies.
  • First-charge protocol for JBL Free earbuds: After fitting the new cell, place the earbud in the charging case and leave it for a complete charge cycle before pairing. The earbud's fuel gauge resets its capacity estimate during this first session — skipping it causes the battery indicator to misread remaining charge.

Why JBL Free earbuds cut out mid-audio after a battery swap

The Free earbud runs Bluetooth radio, audio decoding, and touch sensor logic from a single 3.7V cell. Under combined load, a cell sitting below 3.6V can sag just enough to trigger the BMS undervoltage cutoff — even if the case indicator shows charge remaining. This is most common when the replacement cell ships at storage voltage around 3.7–3.8V and has not yet been fully cycled. A complete charge to 4.2V before first use stabilises the voltage floor and eliminates most cutout events.

Charging case shows full but earbud dies quickly after replacement

The charging case reads the earbud's reported state-of-charge, not the raw cell voltage — so a new cell at storage voltage can report "full" before it has completed a real cycle. The fuel gauge inside the earbud recalibrates over the first three to five full charge-discharge cycles. Until then, actual usable capacity will read lower than the cell's rated 1200mAh. Run three full cycles — charge to 4.2V, use until the earbud auto-powers off — and the indicator will align with real cell state.

Frequently Asked Questions

My JBL Free earbud cuts out mid-song even though the case shows it's charged — is the new battery faulty?

This is almost always a voltage sag issue, not a faulty cell. Under combined Bluetooth and audio decode load, a cell that hasn't completed its first full cycle sags below the BMS cutoff threshold even when the state-of-charge indicator reads high. Place the earbud in the case, charge it fully to 4.2V, and run three complete charge-discharge cycles before assuming the cell is defective.

The charging case shows a charging error or doesn't register the earbud after I replaced the battery — what's wrong?

The earbud BMS needs to complete a handshake with the charging case on first contact. If the cell was installed at storage voltage and immediately docked, the case can misread the cell state and flag an error. Remove the earbud, leave it out of the case for 30 seconds, then re-dock it with the cell at or above 3.8V — the handshake will complete and charging will begin normally.

Why does my JBL Free earbud feel warm during long listening sessions after fitting the new battery?

The GSP853450 is a 1200mAh cell packed into a housing measuring 38 × 36.5 × 8mm — there is very little surface area to dissipate heat. Under sustained Bluetooth streaming with active noise processing, the combined draw produces measurable warmth. This is within normal operating range for Li-Polymer cells in compact earbud housings. If the earbud becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, stop use and check that the replacement cell dimensions match the 38.00 × 36.50 × 8.00mm spec exactly.
