Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JBL Tune 520 BT — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GSP583028)
This is a 3.8V, 650mAh Li-Polymer cell for the JBL Tune 520 BT wireless headphones. It replaces part number GSP583028 — the original cell inside the Tune 520 BT earcup. Fit this when the headset no longer holds a charge or cuts off early despite showing full on the charging indicator.
- Tune 520 BT compatibility: The Tune 520 BT runs a single-cell 3.8V Li-Polymer pack with a BMS that monitors cell voltage and communicates charge state to the headset firmware. This GSP583028 cell matches that voltage rail and connector pinout exactly — the BMS handshake completes without requiring any firmware override.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Tune 520 BT platform. The BMS accepted the new cell without fault codes, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the protection circuit cut off at the expected low-voltage threshold under combined Bluetooth and audio draw.
- First-cycle charging on the Tune 520 BT: After fitting, run a full charge from flat before use. The Tune 520 BT's charge indicator reads from BMS state-of-charge data — a new cell at storage voltage will report an inaccurate level until the first complete charge cycle calibrates the gauge.
Why the Tune 520 BT cuts out mid-call on a new battery
The Tune 520 BT draws simultaneously from the audio driver and the Bluetooth radio during calls. On a new cell sitting at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V — that combined draw can momentarily pull the cell below the BMS low-voltage trip point. The protection circuit interprets this as an unsafe discharge event and cuts power. Running one full charge cycle before making calls brings the cell to 4.2V and gives the BMS enough headroom to handle the combined load without tripping.
Talk time shorter than rated on the first few charges
Li-Polymer cells ship partially charged and don't deliver full capacity on the first cycle. The Tune 520 BT's rated talk time assumes a fully conditioned cell. Capacity builds gradually over three to five full charge-discharge cycles as the electrolyte wets the electrode surfaces evenly. If talk time is still noticeably short after five cycles, check that charge voltage at the USB port is reaching 5V — low input voltage extends charge time and can cause incomplete top-up.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Tune 520 BT shows fully charged but the headset shuts off after a short time — is the new battery faulty?
Not faulty — the cell arrived at storage voltage and the charge indicator hasn't calibrated yet. The BMS reports state-of-charge based on voltage history, and a new cell has no history. Charge the headset fully from flat, let it complete, then discharge and charge again. After two full cycles the indicator will track accurately.
The headset cuts out on calls but plays music without cutting off — why does this happen with the new cell?
Calls draw from both the Bluetooth radio and the audio driver at the same time — music only loads the audio side. That higher combined current during a call creates a brief voltage dip, and if the cell is below 4.0V the BMS can trip the protection circuit. Charge to full before your first call and the dip stays within safe limits.
The Tune 520 BT feels noticeably warm near the earcup during long calls after fitting the new battery — is that normal?
Some warmth is expected. The Tune 520 BT housing is compact, and sustained Bluetooth transmission plus audio playback generates heat in a small enclosed space. The cell itself should not exceed the outer housing temperature. If the earcup is hot rather than warm, check that the USB charge port is clear — restricted airflow around the port can trap heat during charging. Normal operating temperature for the cell is under 45°C.
