Fits Robotic U290 cordless vacuum; replaces OEM battery pack for this model.
14.4V at 2800mAh delivers the voltage and capacity required to restore full motor performance on the U290 unit.
Connector mates directly to U290 charging dock and motor assembly with standard contact alignment; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH cell on a U290 motor load—BMS accepted charge without fault and held voltage steady under sustained suction draw.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously after reaching full charge; trickle charge on Ni-MH degrades capacity faster than charge-and-remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Robotic U290 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 2800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Robotic U290 robotic vacuum cleaner. It fits directly into the U290 and restores power to the motor drive and suction system. Capacity is rated at 40.32Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • U290 platform fit: The U290 runs a 14.4V motor rail with a Ni-MH cell pack. This replacement matches that voltage and uses the same connector orientation and cell count, so the vacuum's onboard controller sees no difference at startup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a U290-class motor load. The BMS held the discharge curve stable through the working voltage window and did not trip on motor start current.
  • Dock charging on the U290: Do not leave the U290 sitting on the charging dock between uses. Ni-MH cells under continuous trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than those charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the U290

The U290 motor draws harder under load — thick carpet, debris buildup, or a partially blocked filter all increase current demand. When the battery pack's internal resistance rises with age, voltage sags under that elevated draw before the state-of-charge indicator registers low. The motor slows, suction drops, but the battery reads as still charged. A fresh cell pack with lower internal resistance holds voltage stable through the same load, so suction stays consistent across the full discharge cycle.

U290 motor cuts out and then recovers mid-run

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the filter is restricted, the motor works against back-pressure and sustained current climbs above the protection threshold. The BMS shuts output, the motor stops, and after a few seconds the pack resets and output resumes. Clean or replace the filter first — if the cutout stops, the filter was the cause. If it continues on a clear filter, the pack's protection threshold has drifted and the cell needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

My U290 loses suction halfway through a run but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?

The battery indicator on the U290 reads state-of-charge, not the voltage the motor is actually receiving under load. As Ni-MH cells age, internal resistance rises, and voltage sags when the motor pulls hard — suction drops even though the display hasn't moved. A replacement pack with lower internal resistance holds the motor voltage above the sag threshold. Check that the filter is clear first, then replace the battery if suction still drops mid-run.

The U290 keeps cutting out and restarting on its own — is the battery faulty?

Most of the time this is a filter restriction problem, not a faulty battery. A blocked filter forces the motor to work against back-pressure, sustained current spikes, and the BMS trips to protect the cells — the vacuum stops, then resets. Remove and clean the filter, then run the vacuum again. If the cut-out stops, the filter was the cause; if it continues on a clean filter, the pack's overcurrent threshold has degraded and the battery needs replacing.

My replacement U290 battery charges but the vacuum won't hold a charge for more than a short run — did I damage the new pack?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause. Ni-MH cells parked on a trickle-charge dock between every use accumulate heat and develop capacity fade faster than cells charged only when depleted. If the new pack was left on the dock continuously from day one, a few full charge-then-discharge cycles away from the dock can partially recover capacity. Going forward, charge to full, then remove the U290 from the dock — do not use the dock as a storage cradle.
