Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KLICKTEL Navigator K5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EN-EL5)

This is a 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original EN-EL5 battery in the KLICKTEL Navigator K5 portable GPS unit. It fits the K5 directly and restores the device to normal operation when the original cell has lost charging capacity. Dimensions are 54.60 × 35.36 × 7.50mm — confirming physical fitment before ordering is a smart step.

  • Navigator K5 fitment: The K5 uses the EN-EL5 cell format across its GPS navigation platform. The connector pinout and cell dimensions are shared, so this replacement seats and connects the same way as the original.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the EN-EL5 cell through charge and discharge cycles and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without triggering fault states or premature cutoff during GPS acquisition and active routing loads.
  • GPS lock and display draw tip: The K5 keeps the display and GPS receiver active simultaneously during navigation. Avoid leaving the unit in active routing mode while running on battery alone for extended periods at low charge — the combined display and receiver draw can cause the BMS to cut off abruptly below 3.2V rather than stepping down gracefully.

Why the Navigator K5 shows a full charge indicator on a new cell but drops quickly under GPS load

A fresh Li-ion cell at rest holds a surface charge that the K5's voltage-based indicator reads as full. Once the GPS receiver locks onto satellites and the display backlight runs at full brightness, current draw rises sharply and voltage sags faster than the indicator expects. This is normal behaviour for a new, unconditioned cell — the indicator is calibrated to the discharge curve of a used original cell. One full charge and discharge cycle through the K5 body allows the BMS to map the new cell's curve more accurately.

Navigator K5 not powering on after the battery has been stored flat

Li-ion cells stored fully discharged can drop below the BMS's minimum recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V. When this happens, the K5 shows no response on the power button because the BMS blocks output to protect the cell. Connect the battery to a compatible external charger that supports recovery charging at a low current — the K5's internal charging circuit may not initiate a charge cycle if the cell is below 2.8V. Once the cell recovers to 3.0V or above, the K5 body charger will take over and complete the charge normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Navigator K5 shows a battery icon but won't turn on — is the new EN-EL5 cell faulty?

Almost always, this is a BMS lockout caused by the cell arriving in a low-voltage state after shipping or storage. The K5's internal charging circuit needs the cell to be above roughly 2.8V before it will initiate a charge. Put the EN-EL5 in an external Li-ion charger for 20–30 minutes until it reaches 3.0V, then return it to the K5 and charge via the device — it should power on normally after a full charge.

The battery percentage on the K5 jumps from 60% to 20% with no warning — what's causing that?

The K5 maps its battery indicator to the discharge voltage curve of the original cell. A new EN-EL5 has a slightly different curve until it's been cycled, so the firmware's voltage-to-percentage lookup misfires at certain thresholds. This causes the display to skip segments rather than step down smoothly. Run two full charge and discharge cycles through the K5 body and the indicator tracking will stabilise as the BMS learns the new cell's curve.

The Navigator K5 switches off mid-route even though the battery showed 30% remaining — what's happening?

Active GPS routing pulls current from both the receiver and display simultaneously, which creates a voltage sag that the resting-state indicator doesn't predict. When combined draw pushes the cell below the BMS cutoff — typically 3.0–3.2V under load — the unit shuts off to protect the cell, even if the displayed percentage suggested charge remained. Lowering screen brightness during navigation reduces total draw and delays that cutoff threshold.
