JVC GR-DV3 / GR-DV5 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BN-V615)

This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery built to the BN-V615 specification. It fits the JVC GR-DV3, GR-DV3U, GR-DV5, GR-DV5U, and over 26 additional JVC MiniDV camcorder models. The cell is a direct physical and electrical match for the original BN-V615, BN-V615U, and BN-V615X packs.

• GR-DV3 and GR-DV5 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers the full range. The connector orientation and contact pin count match across all BN-V615 variants.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a GR-DV3 body under continuous record load. The BMS accepted the pack without error flags, held voltage above the 6.0V low-battery threshold through a full discharge cycle, and charged cleanly via the OEM charger at the rated 1.1A input rate.
• First-use charge cycle on GR-DV3 bodies: Run the first charge from within the camera body or the OEM AA-V15 / AA-V20 adapter charger — not a generic universal charger. Some GR-series BMS units need one full in-body charge cycle before the battery-remaining bar displays accurately.

The GR-DV3 maps its battery indicator to a voltage-threshold table calibrated against the original BN-V615 discharge curve. A new replacement cell can have a slightly different internal resistance profile, which causes the indicator to read full until the voltage crosses the first step-down threshold — then it jumps. This is a display mapping issue, not a cell fault. After two or three full charge and discharge cycles through the camera body, the BMS recalibrates and the bar tracks more linearly across the 8.4V to 6.0V discharge window.

JVC GR-series bodies perform a contact handshake on power-up — if the cell voltage sits below approximately 6.8V after storage, the body may reject the pack entirely rather than attempt a charge. Remove the battery, let it sit at room temperature for ten minutes, then re-seat it firmly and power the camera on without pressing Record. If the body still reads no battery, place the pack in the OEM charger for fifteen minutes to bring it above the 7.0V reinitialisation threshold before reinserting.
