Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JVC GR-DV3 / GR-DV5 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BN-V615)
This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery built to the BN-V615 specification. It fits the JVC GR-DV3, GR-DV3U, GR-DV5, GR-DV5U, and over 26 additional JVC MiniDV camcorder models. The cell is a direct physical and electrical match for the original BN-V615, BN-V615U, and BN-V615X packs.
- GR-DV3 and GR-DV5 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers the full range. The connector orientation and contact pin count match across all BN-V615 variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a GR-DV3 body under continuous record load. The BMS accepted the pack without error flags, held voltage above the 6.0V low-battery threshold through a full discharge cycle, and charged cleanly via the OEM charger at the rated 1.1A input rate.
- First-use charge cycle on GR-DV3 bodies: Run the first charge from within the camera body or the OEM AA-V15 / AA-V20 adapter charger — not a generic universal charger. Some GR-series BMS units need one full in-body charge cycle before the battery-remaining bar displays accurately.
GR-DV3 battery-remaining bar stuck at full — then drops to zero
The GR-DV3 maps its battery indicator to a voltage-threshold table calibrated against the original BN-V615 discharge curve. A new replacement cell can have a slightly different internal resistance profile, which causes the indicator to read full until the voltage crosses the first step-down threshold — then it jumps. This is a display mapping issue, not a cell fault. After two or three full charge and discharge cycles through the camera body, the BMS recalibrates and the bar tracks more linearly across the 8.4V to 6.0V discharge window.
Camera showing "no battery" on a charged replacement pack
JVC GR-series bodies perform a contact handshake on power-up — if the cell voltage sits below approximately 6.8V after storage, the body may reject the pack entirely rather than attempt a charge. Remove the battery, let it sit at room temperature for ten minutes, then re-seat it firmly and power the camera on without pressing Record. If the body still reads no battery, place the pack in the OEM charger for fifteen minutes to bring it above the 7.0V reinitialisation threshold before reinserting.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GR-DV5 shows the battery percentage jumping around — it went from three bars to one bar in seconds. Is the new cell faulty?
This is a display calibration issue, not a cell fault. The GR-DV5 indicator maps voltage steps to bar segments using a curve matched to an aged original cell. A new cell has lower internal resistance, so voltage holds higher for longer and then drops faster through the threshold points the camera watches. Run two full charge-and-discharge cycles through the camera body and the bar tracking will stabilise. If it's still erratic after three cycles, check that the battery contacts in the bay are clean and making firm contact.
The viewfinder on my GR-DV3 dims and the camera shuts off mid-recording, even though the battery indicator was showing charge remaining.
The GR-DV3 draws a combined load from the CCD sensor, LCD, tape transport, and optical image system — sustained recording pulls more current than standby, and if the cell's voltage sags under that combined draw, the body's low-voltage protection trips before the indicator reaches zero. This is most common in cold conditions where lithium-ion cells lose surface capacity quickly. Warm the battery to room temperature before shooting, and avoid recording in environments below 10°C for extended sessions. If the shutoff happens at room temperature on a freshly charged pack, check that the charge reached a full 8.4V — a partial charge from a mismatched charger is the most common cause.
The shot count I'm getting is much lower than what the original BN-V615 used to give me — why?
Capacity from a new cell after the first few cycles is often lower than the rated 2600mAh until the cell breaks in. Lithium-ion cells typically reach full rated capacity after three to five full charge-discharge cycles. Beyond break-in, shot count on a GR-DV camcorder drops significantly if you're using the LCD viewfinder continuously — the backlight is one of the heaviest draws on the platform. Switch to the eyepiece viewfinder for longer sessions. After five cycles, if capacity still feels short, charge to a confirmed 8.4V using the OEM charger and time a full discharge under normal use to get an accurate baseline.
