Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JVC GR-DV3 / GR-DV5 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BN-V607)
This is a 7.4V, 1300mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the BN-V607 in JVC MiniDV camcorders. It fits the GR-DV3, GR-DV3U, GR-DV5, GR-DV5U, and 27 additional models in that lineup. Swap it into the battery compartment directly — no tools required.
- GR-DV3 and GR-DV5 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay geometry, contact pinout, and 7.4V power rail. One cell covers the full group. The BMS in each body reads the same voltage thresholds, so the remaining-charge display behaves consistently across all supported models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the GR-DV3 platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, voltage held steady through the mid-discharge range, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff without an unexpected shutdown.
- First-cycle initialisation on MiniDV bodies: Run the first full charge inside the camera body using the OEM charger connection — not a standalone third-party charger. Some JVC bodies in this series calibrate the battery-level indicator during that first in-body charge cycle, and skipping it can cause the indicator to misread capacity from the start.
Why the GR-DV3 shows a dead-battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell
The GR-DV3 maps its battery-level display against a voltage curve it learned from the original BN-V607 cell. A new replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance, which shifts the resting voltage readings the body uses for each indicator segment. The camera body interprets that voltage offset as a lower state of charge than actually exists. Running one full charge-and-discharge cycle inside the camera body lets the BMS re-map against the new cell's actual curve.
Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording
During active recording, the GR-DV3 draws current from the cell for the tape transport motor, the LCD, and the CCD sensor simultaneously. That combined load causes the cell voltage to sag briefly, and the camera's voltage-threshold indicator can jump one or two segments in response. This is not a faulty cell — it reflects the indicator reacting to instantaneous load voltage rather than true state of charge. If the jumps persist even under light load with a fully charged cell, check that the battery contacts on both the cell and the camera body are clean and making full contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
The GR-DV3 flashes the battery icon and won't start recording even though I just charged this replacement cell — what's happening?
The GR-DV3 can reject an unrecognised cell on first install if it hasn't completed an in-body charge cycle. Insert the replacement cell and charge it fully through the camera body before attempting to record — don't rely on a pre-charged state from a standalone charger. That single in-body charge cycle allows the BMS to authenticate the cell and clear the low-battery flag. After the cycle completes, the body should accept the cell and allow recording normally.
My GR-DV3 battery indicator reads full, then drops to one bar within the first few minutes of recording — is the cell defective?
This is a voltage-curve mismatch, not a defective cell. The GR-DV3's indicator segments are calibrated against voltage thresholds from the original cell; a new cell with slightly different internal resistance will cause the display to skip segments under load. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle inside the camera to let the body re-calibrate against the new cell's actual discharge curve. After that cycle, the indicator should track more accurately through the full discharge range.
The GR-DV3 feels warm around the battery compartment during long recording sessions — is that normal with this replacement cell?
Some warmth is expected. During sustained recording, the GR-DV3 draws current simultaneously from the tape transport, CCD sensor, and LCD panel, and that combined load generates heat at the cell and the body's voltage regulator. The cell's protection circuit is rated to handle this draw safely, and warmth in the compartment alone is not a sign of failure. If the body becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, or if it shuts down unexpectedly, check that the cell is seated fully and the contact pins are not bent or oxidised.
