This happens when the camera's voltage-threshold map doesn't match the discharge curve of the replacement cell. My EZ 4033 shows "no battery" or won't power on with the new NP-900 installed — what's wrong?
The EZ 4033 runs an authentication check on first install, and a new cell that hasn't been charged via the OEM path can fail that check. Seat the battery firmly, then charge it fully inside the camera body before attempting to power on. This lets the BMS complete its initialisation handshake. After one full charge cycle in the body, the camera powers on and reads the cell correctly.
Shot count is lower than expected — the EZ 4033 seems to drain the NP-900 faster than the original battery did?
The rated 600mAh capacity assumes moderate use — single-shot capture with display off between frames. Flash recycling, continuous autofocus, and sustained LCD-on review all add measurable current draw beyond that baseline. Cold temperatures also shrink usable capacity temporarily, as Li-ion cells lose available energy below 10°C. To get the most shots per charge, reduce flash use where light permits and turn off continuous AF when shooting stationary subjects.
The flash on my EZ 4033 isn't fully recycling between shots with the new battery — there's a noticeable delay and sometimes the flash fires dim. What causes this?
The flash capacitor draws a high recharge current immediately after each shot, and if the cell voltage sags under that load, the capacitor doesn't fully charge before the next frame. This is more noticeable at the end of a charge cycle when the cell is below 3.5V. Check the battery indicator before a shooting session — if it's below half, recharge before heavy flash use. A fully charged cell at 4.2V sustains the recharge current without voltage sag and eliminates the recycling lag.
