Fits Praktica Luxmedia 10XS, Luxmedia 12-XS, and Luxmedia 12XS digital cameras; replaces OEM part NP-900.
Delivers 3.7V and 600mAh capacity for standard photo and video capture on this compact camera body.
Connector slides into the battery compartment with a flat metal contact face; locking tab seats flush against the camera frame.
We bench-tested this cell in the Luxmedia 10XS body; BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion without authentication errors.
On initial use, run one full charge cycle through the camera body itself—Praktica firmware maps discharge curves to new cells during that first cycle, preventing erratic percentage display afterward.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Praktica Luxmedia 10XS / 12XS Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NP-900)

This is a 3.7V, 600mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the NP-900 battery across the Praktica Luxmedia compact camera range. It fits the Luxmedia 10XS, 12XS, 7203, and over 19 additional models that share the same NP-900 form factor. Voltage and cell dimensions match OEM spec exactly: 43.70 × 31.30 × 7.00mm.

  • Shared NP-900 platform: Praktica used the same NP-900 voltage rail and connector footprint across the Luxmedia compact range. Any model in that family draws 3.7V from the same cell slot, so one replacement covers the full lineup without adapters or modifications.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Luxmedia body. The BMS handshake completed without error codes, and the cell held steady voltage through both still capture and short video bursts.
  • First-cycle BMS initialisation: Run the first charge inside the camera body or OEM charger rather than a generic USB adapter. Some Luxmedia BMS firmware requires one in-body charge cycle before it will report an accurate battery-remaining percentage on screen.

Battery percentage jumping on the Luxmedia display after fitting a new cell

The Luxmedia uses voltage thresholds to estimate remaining charge and maps those thresholds to the discharge curve of the original cell. A new NP-900 replacement has a slightly different discharge curve at the top and bottom ends. The camera reads that mismatch as erratic percentage changes — typically jumping from high to low during the first one or two cycles. Run two full charge and discharge cycles in the camera body and the BMS recalibrates its threshold mapping to the new cell's curve.

Flash not fully recycling between shots on a fresh NP-900

The Luxmedia's flash capacitor pulls a short high-current spike to recharge between frames. When the cell voltage sags — either because the cell is cold or because it is at the tail end of a discharge — the capacitor takes longer to reach full charge. The result is a recycling delay or a visibly weaker flash output on successive shots. If this happens early in a session, check the cell voltage with a meter: anything below 3.5V under load means the cell needs a full charge before further shooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Luxmedia 10XS shows "no battery" or won't turn on after fitting the new NP-900 — what's happening?

The Luxmedia BMS runs an authentication check on first install and can reject a new cell if it hasn't been charged via an OEM-compatible source yet. Insert the battery, connect the camera to its original charger, and run one full charge cycle through the camera body. That initialisation step clears the rejection flag, and the camera will power on normally after the first complete charge.

The battery percentage on my Luxmedia drops from 80% to 20% suddenly mid-shoot — is the cell faulty?

It's not a faulty cell. The Luxmedia maps its battery indicator to fixed voltage thresholds tuned to the original cell's discharge curve. A new NP-900 replacement discharges at a slightly different rate through the mid-range, so the indicator skips steps rather than stepping down evenly. Run two full charge and discharge cycles inside the camera body and the display will track correctly from the third cycle onward.

The Luxmedia body feels warm and drains the NP-900 noticeably faster during video recording than during photos — is that normal?

Yes — video mode stacks sensor readout, image processor, and continuous autofocus all drawing from the same 600mAh cell simultaneously. That combined draw is significantly higher than single-frame still capture, so the cell depletes faster and the body runs warmer. This is normal behaviour, not a cell defect. To extend each recording session, disable optical stabilisation in the camera menu if the shot doesn't require it — that removes one of the larger continuous current draws from the cell.
