Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Legrand 061892 / 2KRMT 23/43 — 2.4V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (H95420)
This is a 2.4V 2000mAh Ni-CD cell built to replace the OEM H95420 battery in Legrand emergency lighting units. It fits the 061892, 2KRMT 23/43, and 160SCKT2AX fittings. Voltage and capacity match the original spec so the charge controller operates within its expected parameters.
- 061892 / 2KRMT 23/43 / 160SCKT2AX platform: These three fittings share the same charge controller circuit and float voltage threshold. All three accept the H95420 cell format — same 86.80 × 22.40 × 22.40mm stick configuration, same 2.4V nominal rail, same connector orientation.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a load discharge test. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, held float charge correctly, and the charge indicator moved from red to green within the standard absorption window.
- First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting. This lets the charge controller register the new cell and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance test. Skipping this step leaves the controller working from stale charge data.
Charge indicator staying red after fitting the new H95420 cell
Ni-CD cells lose voltage during storage. If the resting voltage of a new cell sits below the float acceptance window of the Legrand charge controller, the unit treats it as a fault rather than beginning a charge cycle. This is not a wiring or installation error. Connect mains power and leave the fitting undisturbed for 12–24 hours — the controller needs time to trickle the cell up to a voltage level it recognises before switching to bulk charge. If the indicator has not moved to green after 24 hours, check that the cell terminals are making firm contact and that mains voltage at the fitting is stable at 230V.
Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed Ni-CD cell that has not completed a full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 2000mAh on the first test draw. The cell voltage drops under load before the full test duration is reached, causing the lamp to dim or cut out early. This is a capacity issue, not a cell fault. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — charge for 24 hours on mains, then hold the test button through the full duration — before submitting the fitting for a compliance duration test. After that cycle the cell will perform to its rated 4.8Wh output.

Frequently Asked Questions
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I replaced the battery and confirmed the cell is seated correctly — what's wrong?
Some Legrand emergency fittings latch a fault condition in the controller and will not clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The fault LED stays on even when the new cell is good. Locate the reset procedure in the fitting's datasheet — on most 061892 units this involves holding the test button for 10 seconds with mains power applied, which forces the controller to re-scan the cell and clear the latched fault. If the LED clears and then returns within a few hours, check that the cell resting voltage has reached at least 2.2V before the controller attempts float charge.
The emergency light passes the press-test but fails the annual duration test carried out by the compliance inspector — why?
A short press-test only confirms the lamp fires, not that the cell holds charge under sustained load for the full rated duration. Ni-CD cells that have been sitting in storage need one full conditioning cycle before they reach rated capacity — the first duration draw will fall short. Run a full manual test cycle (hold the test button for the complete rated period) at least 48 hours before the inspector visits, with a full 24-hour recharge afterward. The cell needs that charge recovery window to present its full 2000mAh to the timed test.
The replacement cell has started to feel warm inside the fitting after several months — is the charge controller overcharging it?
Continuous trickle charging at elevated ambient temperatures — common in ceiling voids or above-door locations — causes Ni-CD cells to run warm over time and can accelerate degradation or swelling. The Legrand 061892 charge circuit is set for the original H95420 cell spec, so a correctly installed cell should not exceed safe temperatures under normal conditions. Check that the fitting's ventilation slots are not blocked and that the ambient temperature at the fitting location is within the rated range. If the cell is visibly swollen, remove it from service immediately and replace it — a swollen Ni-CD must not be returned to the fitting.
