Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NLB 365 — 3.6V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (BAT-HT36-1500CL)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-Cd replacement cell for the NLB 365 emergency lighting unit. It slots in as a direct cell swap when the original degrades and the fitting can no longer hold charge through a full test cycle. Capacity is rated at 7.2Wh from factory.

  • NLB 365 fitting compatibility: The 365 uses a single-cell Ni-Cd pack on a trickle-charge controller matched to this voltage rail. Swapping to a mismatched cell voltage causes the charge controller to either overcharge or never reach float — both shorten cell life significantly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and applied a load discharge to verify BMS acceptance. The charge controller transitioned to float as expected, and the cell held voltage under load without dropping out.
  • First-cycle conditioning for emergency fittings: Perform a manual test within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity before any scheduled compliance test is due.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-Cd cell has not yet reached its rated capacity — storage partially discharges the cell, and the charge controller needs at least one full cycle to calibrate. If the fitting goes into a compliance test within hours of installation, the cell will likely cut out early. Allow a minimum 24-hour charge period before running any duration test. One full manual test cycle after that charge period is enough to condition the cell to rated capacity.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A cell arriving from storage can sit below the float acceptance window of the 365's charge controller, which keeps the indicator in fault or charge mode rather than switching to green. This is not a faulty cell — it is the controller waiting for terminal voltage to climb above its threshold. Leave the fitting on mains power undisturbed for 24 hours. If the indicator has not shifted to green after that period, check that the cell connector is fully seated and terminal voltage at the cell reads above 3.3V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NLB 365 passed its last test fine, but now it cuts out early during the duration test even though I just put in a new battery — what's wrong?

A new Ni-Cd cell ships partially discharged from storage and needs one full charge cycle before it can deliver rated capacity under load. If the fitting ran a test within a day or two of installation, the cell simply hadn't reached full charge yet. Put the fitting back on mains power for a full 24 hours, then run one complete manual test cycle by holding the test button for the full duration. After that conditioning cycle, the cell should hold through a standard compliance test.

The emergency light dims noticeably after a couple of minutes during the test — is this a bad cell or something else?

Dimming partway through a test points to the cell voltage sagging under load before it is fully conditioned — this is a first-activation issue, not a faulty cell. Ni-Cd cells need at least one full charge-then-discharge cycle to reach rated capacity after a period of storage. Recharge for 24 hours on mains, then run a full manual test to complete the conditioning. If the cell still dims heavily after one conditioning cycle, check terminal voltage at the cell under load — it should stay above 3.0V.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've confirmed the new battery is correctly installed and seated — how do I clear it?

Some NLB fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and do not auto-clear when a new cell is detected — the fault requires a manual reset. Isolate the fitting from mains, leave it disconnected for 30 seconds to discharge the control board's capacitors, then reconnect mains power. This forces the charge controller to reinitialise and re-read cell voltage from scratch, which clears a latched fault on most 365 units.
