Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo IdeaPad S300 / S400 Series — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (L12S4Z01)
This is a 14.8V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Lenovo IdeaPad S300, S400, S405, and related S-series notebooks. It replaces OEM parts L12S4Z01, L12S4L01, and 4ICR17/65. Install it when the original cell no longer holds adequate charge or fails to power the laptop away from AC.
- IdeaPad S300 / S400 / S405 compatibility: These models share the same 14.8V four-cell Li-ion architecture, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — which is why one cell SKU covers the entire range. The BMS handshake uses the same EEPROM data structure across all three platforms.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an IdeaPad S400 and monitored charge acceptance through a full CC/CV cycle. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge tapered at 16.8V as expected, and no protection flags tripped during load testing at full CPU and display draw.
- BIOS learn cycle after install: After fitting this battery, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff — do not force-shutdown — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This one full discharge-to-charge cycle resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health or capacity warning that appears after every cell swap on IdeaPad S-series units.
Why the IdeaPad S300 shuts down at 20–30% remaining after a battery swap
The IdeaPad S-series fuel gauge IC calibrates its empty-tank threshold against the original cell's discharge curve stored in EEPROM. A new cell has a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity curve, so the gauge reads the remaining charge incorrectly. Under combined CPU and display load, the actual cell voltage drops faster than the gauge expects, and the system hits its low-voltage cutoff while the OS still shows 20–30%. Running two or three full discharge-to-100% charge cycles recalibrates the fuel gauge IC against the new cell's actual curve and corrects the early shutdown behaviour.
BIOS reporting battery health as "poor" or "replace" immediately after install
Lenovo's BIOS reads health status from EEPROM data written by the original cell — not from live voltage measurements. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM cycle count and wear flags from the old battery still sit in firmware memory, triggering the warning. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run the battery learn cycle: discharge fully to hibernate, then charge to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, the BIOS resets its health register and the warning clears.

Frequently Asked Questions
The IdeaPad S400 fuel gauge is jumping around — showing 60%, then 80%, then back to 45% within the same session. Is the new battery faulty?
The fuel gauge IC on IdeaPad S-series units needs two to three full calibration cycles against a new cell before its readings stabilise. The old cell's discharge curve was mapped into the gauge's internal model, and the new cell's curve doesn't match it yet. Run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff, charge uninterrupted to 100%, and repeat that cycle twice more. After the third cycle, the gauge reading should hold steady within a few percent.
System information on the IdeaPad S300 is showing the wrong Wh rating — 28Wh instead of 32Wh — after fitting this battery. What's causing that?
The Wh figure shown in Windows or Lenovo Vantage is pulled from the EEPROM embedded in the battery's BMS, which stores the rated capacity the manufacturer programmed at the cell level. A slight difference between the EEPROM-rated Wh and the actual chemistry of the replacement cell causes the mismatch — the cell itself is still delivering its correct 32.56Wh. This is a reporting artefact, not a capacity loss. Confirm actual capacity by running a full discharge cycle and checking the mWh logged by a tool like HWMonitor against the 32.56Wh rated value.
The IdeaPad S405 stops charging at exactly 80% and won't go higher — the charger is connected and recognised, but the percentage just sits there.
Lenovo's BIOS includes a firmware-controlled charge threshold on S-series models that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear when the feature is active. Check Lenovo Vantage or the BIOS power settings under "Battery Charge Threshold" — if the conservation mode or charge limit is enabled, the 80% cap is intentional. Disable the threshold setting in Vantage or navigate to BIOS → Config → Power → Disable Battery Conservation Mode, then reconnect the charger to resume charging to 100%.
