Fits Luxalite LPM70, LPM80, LPS70, LPC118 emergency lighting units; replaces BP4S and ELB-BP4S battery packs.
Outputs 4.8V at 4000mAh capacity — supplies 19.2Wh total energy for full-duration emergency illumination during mains failure.
Connector slides into the vertical slot with the tab oriented toward the charge controller; locking notch on the case seats firmly.
We bench-tested this Ni-CD pack in an LPM70 head — the charge controller accepted the new cell voltage within two minutes and showed green after eight hours on float charge.
Run a full test cycle by holding the test button within 24 hours of installation; this allows the charger to register actual cell capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Luxalite LPM70 / LPM80 / LPS70 Series — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (BP4S)

This is a 4.8V, 4000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement battery for Luxalite emergency lighting fittings. It fits the LPM70, LPM80, LPS70, LPC118, and more than 20 additional Luxalite models. Voltage and cell count match the original BP4S specification exactly.

  • LPM70, LPM80, LPS70, LPC118 compatibility: These fittings share a common 4.8V charge rail and the same physical cell pack format. The connector pinout and cell arrangement match across this range, so the charge controller sees no difference from the factory battery.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure load test. The BMS accepted charge without flagging a fault, and the pack held voltage under load throughout the rated test duration.
  • First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity and confirms the pack accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD pack is rarely at full capacity straight out of the box. Storage time and partial self-discharge mean the cells need at least one complete charge-discharge cycle before they reach rated capacity. If you test immediately after fitting, the pack will cut out early — not because the battery is faulty, but because the cells have not yet been conditioned. Allow 24 hours on charge first, then run the full duration test.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

The charge controller in Luxalite fittings uses cell voltage to determine charge state. A new pack that has been in storage can sit below the float acceptance window — typically under 5.4V open circuit — which the controller reads as a fault rather than a dischargeable cell. Leave the fitting on mains power for two to four hours. The trickle charge will bring cell voltage up into the acceptance window and the indicator should shift to green. If it does not move after four hours, check that the connector is fully seated and that terminal voltage at the pack measures above 4.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Luxalite fitting still shows a fault LED after I've fitted the new BP4S battery and confirmed the connection is solid — what's wrong?

Some Luxalite fittings latch the fault LED in firmware and do not clear it automatically when a new battery is detected. The pack itself is fine. Remove mains power for 30 seconds, then restore it — this forces the charge controller to re-initialise and re-poll the battery voltage. If the fault LED clears within a few minutes of power-on, the reset has worked and the fitting is operating normally.

The emergency light comes on during a mains-failure test but dims noticeably after a couple of minutes — is the battery faulty?

This points to a cell that has not completed its first conditioning cycle, not a defective pack. Ni-CD cells deliver reduced capacity on first activation after storage, and the voltage sag under load becomes visible as dimming before the full rated duration is reached. Put the fitting back on mains charge for a full 24 hours, then repeat the test. Capacity normalises after one complete charge-discharge cycle.

I noticed the BP4S pack in my LPM70 fitting looks slightly swollen after years of service — what causes that and is it a safety risk?

Swelling in a Ni-CD pack inside an emergency fitting is almost always the result of years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature — common in ceiling-mounted or enclosed fittings above 35°C. The overcharge drives electrolyte breakdown and gas generation inside the cells. A swollen pack should be removed and disposed of through a certified battery recycling point immediately — do not attempt to compress or puncture it. Replace it with the BP4S and check that the fitting's enclosure has adequate ventilation.
