Fits Magellan TRX7 GPS navigator; replaces OEM battery part number N496.
3.7V, 3800mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers full capacity for extended field navigation without mid-route shutdowns.
Connector mates flush into TRX7 battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats firmly.
We bench-tested the BMS on first charge cycle — no cutoff faults, voltage curve normal throughout discharge.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before use — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5–10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan TRX7 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (N496)

This 3.7V, 3800mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the N496 battery in the Magellan TRX7 portable GPS navigator. It restores full operating power to the TRX7 for outdoor navigation, trail mapping, and route tracking. Dimensions are 96.80 × 56.40 × 5.35mm — match these against your original cell before fitting.

  • TRX7 fit: The N496 battery uses a flat Li-Polymer cell format specific to the TRX7 chassis. The connector pinout and BMS handshake are matched to the TRX7's power management board, so the device reads state-of-charge correctly from the first power-on.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS held the low-voltage cutoff cleanly and the TRX7 reported accurate charge levels throughout — no false full readings at the top of the cycle.
  • First cold start after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the TRX7 on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before use. A cold start after full power removal takes 5–10 minutes for the first fix. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced as the TRX7 battery drains

Some GPS units step down receiver sensitivity when battery voltage drops below a set threshold. The TRX7 GPS receiver draws consistent power during active navigation, but at low battery the device may reduce RF gain to protect remaining charge. This shows up as weaker satellite signal bars and occasional position drift. Keeping the cell above 3.5V during active use avoids the threshold where sensitivity reduction kicks in.

TRX7 shuts off without low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the TRX7's charge indicator can be uncalibrated against the new cell. The device reads the fuel gauge from a learned discharge curve tied to the old cell. With a fresh cell, the voltage-threshold trigger for the warning can fire late, giving little or no visual alert before cutoff. Run two full charge-discharge cycles to let the TRX7 recalibrate its indicator — after that, the low-battery warning should appear at approximately 3.55V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Magellan TRX7 lost all my saved routes after I put in the new battery — is there any way to get them back?

Saved routes and POIs on the TRX7 are held in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that memory loses power and stored routes can be wiped. If you had a backup saved to the internal storage or an SD card, restore from there via the TRX7's file manager. Going forward, export routes to the SD card before any battery swap — that's the only way to guarantee they survive a full power interruption.

My TRX7 is taking 8–10 minutes to find satellites after fitting the replacement battery — is the GPS unit damaged?

It's not damaged — this is a normal cold start. When the TRX7 loses power completely, it clears its cached almanac and ephemeris data, which are the satellite position tables it uses to lock quickly. Without that cache, the receiver has to rebuild it from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the first fix completes and the data is re-cached, warm starts will lock in under a minute.

The TRX7 battery drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when the unit is just sitting idle — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously — both are significant power draws. The GPS receiver alone pulls continuous current to maintain satellite lock and recalculate position. Add maximum display brightness on a sunny trail and current draw is several times higher than standby. Dropping screen brightness by 30–40% during navigation is the single most effective step to extend charge between top-ups.
