Fits Garmin Aera 795 and Aera 796 portable GPS navigators; replaces OEM part numbers 010-11756-04, 361-00055-00, and 361-00055-01.
7.4V Li-ion chemistry delivers 5200mAh capacity for sustained operation across flight planning, weather updates, and moving map functions without mid-flight shutdown.
Battery slides into the Aera's rear compartment with a positive-to-rear orientation; connector seats firmly and the retention latch locks with a downward snap.
We ran full charge cycles on bench with the Aera's GPS and moving map active; the BMS regulated voltage throughout discharge and accepted fast-charge protocol without thermal drift.
After you insert this cell, power the Aera fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5–10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Aera 795 / 796 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-11756-04)

This is a 7.4V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 5200mAh (38.48Wh) for the Garmin Aera 795 and Aera 796 portable aviation GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part numbers 010-11756-04, 361-00055-00, and 361-00055-01. It restores full power to the unit when the original cell has degraded past usable capacity.

  • Aera 795 and 796 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The same 7.4V cell with matching physical footprint of 85.00 × 77.90 × 23.35mm fits either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The BMS held charge termination correctly at full voltage, and the protection circuit responded normally to load fluctuations from the GPS receiver and backlit display running simultaneously.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this battery, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a full satellite fix before flight. Removing all power clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris cache, triggering a cold start that takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for a warm start once the almanac is rebuilt.

Why the Aera 795 shuts off without warning during flight

The Aera 795 reads remaining charge from a fuel gauge calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. When a new or degraded cell has a slightly different curve, the unit's charge indicator reads higher than actual. The device hits its low-voltage cutoff threshold before the on-screen indicator reaches the warning level. To recalibrate, run two full charge-discharge cycles — the fuel gauge relearns the curve and the warning fires at the correct point.

Saved flight routes and POIs missing after battery replacement

The Aera 795 stores some navigation data in battery-backed RAM. A complete power removal — as happens during a battery swap — can wipe routes and custom POIs that were held in volatile memory rather than written to flash. Waypoints and flight plans saved explicitly to the internal storage are not affected. Before swapping the battery, export any active routes via the unit's data transfer menu to a connected PC to avoid loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Aera 795 is taking 8 minutes to find satellites after fitting the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing all power clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris and almanac data, forcing a cold start. The unit needs to download fresh satellite position data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent power cycles will lock in under a minute once the almanac is stored. Power the device on outside before your first flight rather than inside a hangar.

The Aera 796 drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to sitting on standby — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full polling rate and keeps the display lit, which draws significantly more current than standby. At maximum display brightness with real-time moving map and weather overlays active, the load on the 7.4V cell is substantially higher than idle. Reduce display brightness to the lowest usable level during cruise to extend charge between ground stops. The battery itself is not at fault — this is a load difference between modes.

My Aera 795 shows reduced GPS accuracy when the battery drops below 30% — is the GPS hardware failing?

Some GPS units reduce receiver sensitivity or polling rate at low battery to protect against a sudden voltage drop below the cutoff threshold. On the Aera 795, accuracy degradation at low charge is a power-management behaviour, not a hardware fault. Charge the unit above 50% and recheck — accuracy should return to normal. If it does not, recalibrate the fuel gauge by running two full charge-discharge cycles so the BMS reads actual state of charge correctly.
