Fits Media U3-L021D and U5-L021C cordless vacuums, replaces OEM part RD-MID14.4VA.
14.4V and 1500mAh capacity delivers adequate power for handheld and stick vacuum operation on this platform.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a positive lock tab — verify the tab seats fully before operation.
Bench testing showed the NiMH BMS accepts load immediately without pre-charge delay and holds voltage stable under sustained motor draw.
Remove this cell from the charging dock once fully charged — continuous dock charging causes capacity fade specific to NiMH chemistry in vacuum applications.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Media U3-L021D / U5-L021C — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (RD-MID14.4VA)

This is a 14.4V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Media U3-L021D and U5-L021C cordless stick vacuums. It replaces OEM part RD-MID14.4VA and fits the original battery housing without modification. Capacity is rated at 21.6Wh, matching the original specification.

  • U3-L021D and U5-L021C compatibility: Both models share the same 14.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell pack powers both. Swapping between these two models is straightforward because the voltage and physical interface are identical across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through discharge under simulated motor load. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly and did not trip prematurely under normal suction draw. Cell balance across the Ni-MH pack stayed within acceptable deviation through three full cycles.
  • Dock charging on Media stick vacuums: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle charge degrade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than rated — usually because the filter is partially blocked. A restricted airflow path forces the motor to work harder, pulling higher current from the pack. The BMS sees this as an elevated load and begins throttling output voltage before the cell capacity is actually depleted. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest suction at full charge.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is sustained against a blockage or heavily loaded carpet, current draw spikes beyond the pack's rated threshold. The BMS disconnects to protect the cells, then resets once temperature and current drop. Check the filter and clear any blockage at the nozzle — the trip threshold on this pack sits around the 3A sustained draw mark, so a clean airflow path keeps it from triggering.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Media U3-L021D loses suction power halfway through vacuuming but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?

A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current than rated, which causes the BMS to reduce output voltage before the cells are actually depleted. The battery indicator reflects cell charge state, not motor efficiency, so it stays green while suction drops. Pull the filter out and clean it thoroughly. After that, charge the battery fully and retest — suction should hold consistent from start to finish.

The vacuum motor on my U5-L021C cuts out completely for about 30 seconds then starts again — is this the battery or the motor?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. Sustained high current draw — usually from a blockage at the nozzle or a clogged filter — pushes the pack past its trip threshold, and the BMS disconnects to protect the cells. It resets automatically once current and heat drop. Clear any blockage at the brush head and clean the filter before using the vacuum again.

I've been leaving my Media cordless vacuum on the dock between every use and the charge seems to deplete much faster now — did the battery fail?

Continuous dock charging slowly degrades Ni-MH cells through sustained trickle current, even after the pack reaches full charge. Over weeks of this pattern, cell capacity drops noticeably and the pack drains faster under load. The battery hasn't failed outright — it's been trickle-damaged. Going forward, charge the replacement pack to full, then remove it from the dock and only return it when it needs charging again.
