Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medion Life P42010 / MD85866 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AK01)
This 3.7V, 850mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original AK01 battery in the Medion Life P42010, Life P42012, MD85866, and MD85416 compact digital cameras. Same footprint as the OEM cell at 40.20 × 35.30 × 6.10mm — fits the battery bay without modification. Use it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or the camera stops powering on mid-shoot.
- Life P42010 / P42012 / MD85866 / MD85416 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector orientation, and 3.7V BMS voltage threshold — one cell covers all of them without adapter or wiring change.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Medion camera body and an OEM-spec charger. The BMS accepted the cell, voltage stayed within the 3.7V nominal band, and charge termination triggered cleanly at capacity.
- First-install charge protocol for Medion compact cameras: Run the first full charge cycle inside the camera body using the OEM charger — not an aftermarket multi-charger. Some Medion BMS firmware maps the battery-remaining indicator during this first in-body charge cycle. Skipping it causes erratic percentage readings in the field.
Camera showing dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell
The Medion Life P42010's battery indicator reads voltage thresholds mapped to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell often sits at a resting voltage of 3.6–3.65V out of the packaging — low enough that the camera reads it as empty. This is a voltage-mapping issue, not a cell fault. Charge the battery fully in the camera body first; once the BMS logs a complete charge cycle, the indicator tracks correctly.
Flash not fully recycling between shots on a new cell
The flash capacitor in compact cameras like the Life P42010 draws a sharp current spike to recharge between exposures. If the cell voltage has sagged — even slightly — the capacitor recharge slows down and the camera delays the next shot or fires an underexposed flash. This typically appears when the cell is below 3.5V under load. If recycling lag appears early in a session on a new battery, check that the first full charge cycle completed properly; a partially initialised cell sags harder under flash load than a fully cycled one.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Medion Life P42010 shows "no battery" with the new cell installed — is the camera rejecting it?
This is a BMS authentication check on first contact with an unrecognised cell. The camera hasn't logged a charge signature for the new battery yet. Insert the cell and charge it fully inside the camera body using the original Medion charger — do not use an external multi-charger for this first cycle. After one complete in-body charge, the camera accepts the cell and the error clears.
The battery percentage on the Life P42010 display jumps around erratically — 80% one moment, 40% the next.
The camera's fuel gauge maps voltage steps from the original cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge profile hits those voltage thresholds at different charge levels, which makes the indicator jump. This usually corrects itself after two full charge-discharge cycles in the camera body. If the jumping persists after three cycles, check that the battery contacts in the bay are clean and making firm contact — oxidised contacts cause intermittent voltage dips that look identical to a gauge calibration issue.
Shot count dropped noticeably mid-trip — the cell was fully charged but the camera died faster than expected in cold weather.
Li-ion cells lose usable capacity below around 10°C because internal resistance rises and the BMS cuts off discharge earlier to protect the cell. The Life P42010's compact housing gives the battery no thermal buffer, so the effect is immediate. Keep a spare cell in an inner jacket pocket between uses — body temperature is enough to maintain normal discharge performance. When you swap the cold cell back in briefly to warm it, you'll typically recover a significant portion of the remaining charge.
