Fits Metrologic MS1633 FocusBT barcode scanner; replaces OEM part numbers 70-72018, 70-72018B, BJ-MJ02X-2K4KSM, and 46-00358.
3.7V lithium-ion cell with 2200mAh capacity delivers full scan-and-transmit cycles on retail floors without mid-shift power loss.
Connector slides straight into the scanner battery slot with positive terminal first; locking tab seats flush on the right side.
Bench testing showed normal BMS voltage ramp on first dock charge with no fault codes; wireless link held steady under rapid scan bursts.
After installing this cell, place the scanner in its cradle for one full charge cycle before floor use — scan trigger inrush is highest when the battery sits near minimum voltage, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS cutoffs on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Metrologic MS1633 FocusBT — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (70-72018)

This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion cell built to slot into the Metrologic MS1633 FocusBT barcode scanner. The MS1633 FocusBT is a Bluetooth handheld scanner used in retail and warehouse inventory operations. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the original pack exactly.

  • MS1633 FocusBT platform fit: The FocusBT runs its Bluetooth radio and imager off a shared 3.7V rail. Both draw simultaneously on every trigger pull, so the BMS must tolerate combined inrush without dropping out. This cell's protection circuit is rated for that combined load without tripping on normal scan bursts.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated trigger-plus-radio load sequences on the MS1633 FocusBT. The BMS held voltage above the scanner's minimum threshold across sustained burst scanning, and the cradle dock reported charge accepted without error on every test unit.
  • First-shift cradle conditioning: After installing this pack, place the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before starting pick-and-pack. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near its minimum state of charge — a fully topped cell prevents false BMS cutoffs on the first shift of use.

Why the MS1633 FocusBT drops its Bluetooth link during rapid scan bursts

The FocusBT's radio and imager fire together on each trigger pull. An aged or partially charged cell can't sustain the combined current draw without momentary voltage sag. When cell voltage dips below the scanner's radio-hold threshold — typically around 3.2V under load — the Bluetooth stack resets before the imager finishes its read cycle. A fresh, fully charged replacement cell maintains voltage well above that threshold and keeps the radio link stable through high-frequency scan sequences.

Cradle showing a charging error after fitting the new pack

A charging error on the dock immediately after a battery swap is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a faulty cell. The MS1633 FocusBT dock uses spring-pin contacts that pick up oxidation and debris quickly in warehouse environments. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the scanner body with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds of reseating, the contacts were the cause — the cell itself is fine and charging normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MS1633 FocusBT scanner won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but nothing scans

The imager needs a minimum voltage to process and decode a barcode image — if the new pack shipped in a low state of charge, the cell voltage under trigger load can drop just enough to stall the decode engine even though the laser fires. Put the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before scanning. Once the pack reaches 4.1–4.2V resting voltage, the imager's processing circuit gets stable power and reads should return to normal.

The scanner runs noticeably warm after a long shift — is that normal with the new battery?

The MS1633 FocusBT generates heat from two sources at once: the Bluetooth radio transmitting continuously and the imager firing on every trigger pull. In an enclosed plastic housing with no active cooling, that sustained dual draw produces warmth at the battery and the scan engine housing. Warm to the touch after a full shift is normal. If the pack becomes hot — uncomfortable to hold — check whether wireless polling frequency is set higher than your environment requires, as reducing beacon intervals lowers the radio's steady-state current draw.

My shift endurance dropped compared to the old battery — the new pack seems to run out faster on busy days

Scan burst frequency and Bluetooth polling together set the real discharge rate on the FocusBT — a high-volume day with continuous scanning and an active radio link draws significantly more current than light use. The new 2200mAh cell matches original spec, so if endurance is shorter than expected, check whether the scanner's wireless polling interval has been set to a faster rate than needed, as that alone can cut usable shift time noticeably. Also confirm the first charge cycle was completed fully in the cradle — a cell that was put into service without a full initial charge will underperform until it has been through two or three complete charge cycles.
