Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS R860 Caliber — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EB664239HA)
This is a 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the MetroPCS R860 Caliber smartphone. It also fits the SCH-R860, SCH-R860ZKAMTR, and Ativ Odyssey. OEM part number EB664239HA cross-references to EB664239HABSTD — both refer to the same cell specification.
- R860 Caliber and SCH-R860 variants: These models share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V power rail. The connector pinout and BMS handshake are identical across the SCH-R860ZKAMTR and Ativ Odyssey variants, so one cell covers all four.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the R860 platform. The BMS accepted the charge protocol without interruption, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installing this cell, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle before normal use. The fuel gauge IC on the R860 is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle lets it remap against the new cell before reporting accurate percentages.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the R860 after a cell swap
The R860's modem and display together draw a sharp current spike that a degraded or freshly installed cell can fail to sustain. When cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under that load — even if the fuel gauge still shows 20–30% — the phone shuts off immediately. This is a voltage cliff, not a capacity problem. The fuel gauge IC hasn't yet learned the new cell's discharge curve, so it reports a percentage that doesn't match actual available voltage. One full discharge-charge cycle corrects the curve map and moves the apparent cliff back to below 5%.
Phone won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the R860's replacement battery dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters lockout to prevent damage. The phone will show nothing when you press power — no logo, no charge indicator. Connect the phone to a wall adapter, not a USB port, and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage rises above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically around 2.9V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The R860 shows the wrong battery percentage after I put in the new cell — it jumped from 15% to 60% on its own. What's going on?
The fuel gauge IC on the R860 stores a charge curve mapped to the old cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC applies that old curve to a different discharge profile, so the percentage readout is unreliable until it recalibrates. Run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without removing the phone from the charger. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter resets its baseline against the new cell and the percentage readings stabilise.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after swapping the battery — the phone is only charging slowly now.
On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the R860's charge IC may not negotiate the higher-current protocol until the BMS has completed one handshake at standard charge rates. This is normal behaviour on the first cycle — the protection circuit defaults to a conservative charge rate against an uncalibrated cell. Charge once at the slow rate to 100%, unplug, and reconnect. The fast charge negotiation should resume on the second connection once the BMS has logged the completed cycle.
The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell. Is something wrong?
A new high-impedance cell has slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates more heat during the first few cycles as resistance drops. This is expected and typically resolves within three to five charge cycles as the cell conditions. If the warmth continues beyond five cycles or the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — check that the charge port is clean and that you're using a 5V/1A adapter rather than a higher-voltage supply, which will push more current than the R860's charge IC is rated to handle.
