Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microsoft SurfaceBook with Performance Base — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PBP5)
This 7.6V, 2500mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original tablet-portion cell in the Microsoft SurfaceBook with Performance Base. It fits the detachable display unit — not the keyboard base battery. Voltage and capacity match OEM part PBP5 (also cross-referenced as 2ICP5/58/73).
- Tablet cell, not base cell: The SurfaceBook splits power between two batteries — the keyboard Performance Base and the detachable display tablet. This battery powers the tablet half only. Connector pinout and BMS handshake match the tablet's charge controller, not the base unit.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Surface tablet's charge IC and confirmed the BMS negotiated charge termination correctly at 8.7V peak. The protection circuit tripped as expected at low-voltage cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
- Fuel gauge IC recalibration after swap: After installation, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This resets the fuel gauge IC against the new cell's actual capacity curve and resolves the inaccurate percentage readings that almost always appear immediately after a battery replacement.
Why the SurfaceBook tablet shuts down at 15–25% remaining
The Surface tablet's display draws heavily alongside the WiFi and background sync load. At around 15–25% state of charge, cell voltage drops sharply under that combined load — faster than the fuel gauge predicts. The BMS reads this voltage sag as a low-voltage cutoff condition and shuts the system down before the reported percentage reaches zero. Running one full recalibration cycle after installation tightens the fuel gauge model and pushes that cutoff point back toward the correct threshold.
Fast charging not available after battery swap
Surface devices use USB-PD negotiation to authorise higher charge rates. After a battery swap, the charge IC sometimes defaults to a conservative trickle rate until it completes one accepted full charge cycle with the new cell. If the Surface Connect charger is showing slow charge speed post-swap, let the device charge from near-empty to 100% uninterrupted. After that cycle, the charge controller renegotiates and fast charge resumes — no settings change required.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SurfaceBook tablet shows 85% battery right after replacement, then jumps to 60% ten minutes later — is the new battery faulty?
The battery is not faulty — the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. After a swap, the gauge reads voltage-to-percentage against data it learned from the original battery, so the numbers drift badly. Run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single cycle resets the fuel gauge model against the new cell and stabilises the percentage display.
The SurfaceBook tablet feels warm near the hinge area during the first few charges after fitting this battery — should I be concerned?
Mild warmth during early charging cycles is normal. The charge IC on the new cell is operating at a slightly higher current while it characterises the fresh cell's internal resistance. We measured surface temperature on the bench during this phase and it stayed within Microsoft's thermal envelope. If the tablet becomes hot to the touch or the chassis distorts, disconnect immediately — but gentle warmth that fades after 20–30 minutes of charging is expected behaviour on a new cell.
After fitting the replacement, the SurfaceBook tablet detaches from the Performance Base fine but drains faster than expected from a full charge — what's causing that?
Fast drain from 100% is almost always fuel gauge drift, not a cell defect. The gauge overshoots 100% on the first charge because it hasn't mapped the new cell's voltage plateau yet, so what reads as "100%" is actually a lower real state of charge. Complete one full discharge-to-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to let the gauge IC recalibrate. If drain remains disproportionate after two full cycles, check that background apps and screen brightness match your pre-replacement settings, as those haven't changed with the battery swap.
