Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Mindeo M50 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HMD50)
This is a 3.85V, 4500mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Mindeo M50 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the M50 directly and uses the OEM part number HMD50. Rated at 17.33Wh, it matches the original cell specification for voltage and capacity.
- M50 platform fit: The M50 uses a slim Li-Polymer cell format with a low-voltage 3.85V rail to keep the housing compact. The HMD50 matches that rail, the physical footprint (84.20 × 69.30 × 9.60mm), and the BMS handshake the scanner's firmware expects on power-up.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and wireless polling loads. The BMS held the cutoff threshold correctly at low state-of-charge and did not trip during combined radio and imager draw.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack use: After installing a fresh pack, place the M50 in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the shift begins. Scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips during the first high-frequency scanning run.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new HMD50 pack
This happens most often because of contact resistance between the pack and the cradle's charging pins. A new cell surface can have a thin film from handling, and the cradle interprets the resistance spike as a fault. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. The charging indicator should clear within 30 seconds of a solid connection.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
When the M50 fires the imager and transmits data over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi at the same time, the combined inrush can cause a momentary voltage sag at the cell terminals. If the pack is weak or deeply discharged, that sag crosses the BMS undervoltage threshold and the radio stack resets to protect the cell. The fix is to keep the pack above 20% state-of-charge during high-frequency scanning. If drops persist on a fully charged new pack, check that the wireless channel is not congested — radio retries increase draw and worsen sag.

Frequently Asked Questions
My M50 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire at full power, and a brand-new pack sitting in storage can drop below that threshold. Put the M50 in its cradle and charge the HMD50 fully before trying to scan — the BMS on a freshly installed cell may also need one complete charge cycle to calibrate. Once the pack reaches full charge, the imager should fire at normal intensity. If the scanner still won't read after a full charge, check the imager window for smudges before assuming a hardware fault.
The M50 feels warm after a long scanning shift — is that normal with this battery?
Some warmth is expected. The M50 housing is compact, and sustained scanning with wireless transmission running keeps both the imager and the radio drawing current continuously. Heat concentrates because there is little airspace around the cell. If the housing becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — the scan duty cycle is likely higher than the device was configured for; reduce burst frequency or allow brief idle periods between scan runs. A surface temperature that stays below approximately 40°C during normal shifts is within acceptable range.
Why does this battery seem to drain faster than expected when the M50 sits idle between scans?
The M50 maintains an active wireless connection even when no barcode is being read, and the radio polling interval draws a steady background current from the cell. Shallow cycling — frequent top-ups without allowing the pack to discharge meaningfully — also accelerates capacity fade over time in Li-Polymer cells. To slow this, avoid leaving the scanner on and connected in a high-polling wireless mode during long breaks; power the unit off or dock it so the cradle manages the charge state. If the pack was stored for several months before use, run two full discharge-and-charge cycles to bring the cell to rated capacity.
