Fits Mio Moov S500 and S556 GPS navigators; replaces OEM battery BP-N229-11/1100MX.
This 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell restores full navigation session runtime to aging Mitac units with degraded original packs.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot; locking tab seats flush with the device chassis.
We bench-tested this cell in an S500 unit; the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault codes.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mitac Mio Moov S500 / S556 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-N229-11/1100MX)

This 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Mio Moov S500 and Mio Moov S556 portable GPS navigators. Both devices use the same battery format and connector, drawing from the same OEM part number BP-N229-11/1100MX. Capacity is 1100mAh (4.07Wh) — matching the factory specification.

  • Mio Moov S500 and S556 compatibility: Both models share the same 3.7V battery bay, physical footprint at 50.05 × 35.86 × 5.60mm, and connector orientation. The BMS handshake on each device expects the same charge cutoff voltage, so one cell covers both platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the S500 platform. The onboard BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, voltage regulation held stable through active navigation load, and the charge circuit terminated correctly at full capacity.
  • First satellite fix after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it run a full cold start. GPS navigators lose their almanac data on full power removal — first fix can take 5–10 minutes in open sky versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts. Leave the device stationary outdoors until the fix locks.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Mio Moov S500

The S500 reduces receiver sensitivity as cell voltage drops toward the low-battery threshold. This happens before the device shuts off — you may notice position drift or longer recalculation times while the battery indicator still shows one bar. The GPS receiver draws significant current, and the device throttles it to stretch remaining charge. Keeping the cell above 3.6V maintains full receiver performance.

Mio Moov S500 shutting off without warning during navigation

An aged original battery loses capacity but the device's voltage-threshold indicator doesn't recalibrate to match. The visual warning never fires because the cell hits the cutoff floor before the indicator logic triggers it. After fitting a new cell, the first two full charge-discharge cycles let the firmware re-read the voltage curve correctly. Run the unit through two complete cycles — charge fully, navigate until shutdown — and the warning should appear at the right point.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mio Moov S500 lost all my saved routes and POIs after I swapped the battery — is that gone for good?

Yes, and it's expected. The S500 stores saved routes and POIs in battery-backed RAM, not in flash memory, so a full power removal wipes that data. There's no recovery from the device side once the cell is out. Before any future swap, export your routes via the MioMore Desktop software so you have a file to restore from.

After fitting the new battery, my Mio Moov S500 is taking forever to get a satellite fix — what's wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Replacing the battery causes a cold start — the GPS loses its stored almanac and ephemeris data and has to download fresh satellite positions from scratch. In open sky this takes 5–10 minutes on first lock. Move outside away from buildings, leave the unit stationary, and let it run. Once it locks once, subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute.

My Mio Moov S500 battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating than when the device is just sitting idle — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is working correctly. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously — that combination pulls significantly more current than standby with the screen off. The receiver alone is the largest load in the device. Dropping screen brightness to its lowest usable level during navigation reduces draw from the display portion of that load and extends the charge between stops.
