Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola Moto Z2 Play — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HZ40 / SNN5985A)
This is a 3.8V, 2800mAh lithium-polymer cell for the Motorola Moto Z2 Play and Moto Z2 Play Dual SIM, covering variants XT1710-08 and XT1710-11. It replaces OEM part numbers HZ40 and SNN5985A. Physical dimensions are 97.14 × 48.30 × 3.68mm — match these before installing.
- XT1710 variant compatibility: The XT1710-08 and XT1710-11 share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers all listed variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Z2 Play. The BMS communicated correctly with the Snapdragon 626 power management IC, and charge termination triggered at the expected 4.35V ceiling with no errors logged.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Moto Z2 Play after a cell swap
The Z2 Play's fuel gauge IC retains the discharge curve of the original cell in its coulomb counter registers. When a new cell goes in, the IC's internal model no longer matches the actual voltage-capacity relationship of the replacement. Under load spikes — modem transmit, screen wake — the new cell's voltage drops faster than the IC expects, triggering an emergency shutdown even though the reported percentage looks safe. Run one full discharge to below 5% and a complete charge to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets and shutdown behaviour normalises.
TurboPower fast charging not activating after battery replacement
Motorola's TurboPower protocol requires a handshake between the charge IC and the battery's BMS before high-current delivery starts. On a freshly installed cell, the BMS may reject the elevated current on the first charge cycle as a precaution against charging an unknown-state cell. Plug into the original Motorola TurboPower adapter — not a third-party charger — and let the first full charge complete at standard rate. TurboPower negotiation typically succeeds from the second cycle onward once the BMS has logged a verified full-charge event.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Moto Z2 Play shuts off at around 25% after I put in a new battery — is the replacement faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the Z2 Play calibrates its shutdown threshold against the old cell's discharge curve, and a new cell hits its voltage floor faster under modem or screen load than the IC's stored model predicts. Run one uninterrupted discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge fully to 100% without unplugging early. After that single calibration cycle, the coulomb counter updates its model and early shutdowns stop.
The battery percentage on my Z2 Play keeps jumping around erratically right after I installed the replacement — what's happening?
The coulomb counter is recalibrating. When the original cell is removed, the fuel gauge IC loses its reference data and starts estimating state-of-charge against an empty register. Percentage jumps of 5–15% in either direction are normal during the first one to two charge cycles while the IC re-learns the new cell's voltage curve. Let the phone complete two full discharge-to-charge cycles without pulling the plug early, and the readings will stabilise.
My Z2 Play won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it — how do I recover it?
Li-polymer cells self-discharge in storage, and if this one dropped below approximately 2.5V the BMS will have entered lockout mode to prevent damage — the phone won't respond to the power button. Connect it to the original Motorola charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC applies a trickle current to bring the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 3.0V, after which the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.
