Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NARWAL J3 / J4 — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP4S2PPM5B)
This 14.4V 6800mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack in the NARWAL J3 and J4 robotic vacuum cleaners. It matches the OEM voltage rail and BMS communication protocol required by both models. Capacity is 6800mAh (97.92Wh), sourced to the same cell specification as the factory pack.
- J3 and J4 shared platform: Both models run the same 14.4V motor bus and use an identical battery bay connector with BMS handshake. A single pack covers both units because the firmware on each reads the same cell authentication signal from the BP4S2PPM5B and BP4S2PPM5D part numbers.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the J3 cleaning cycle under full suction load. The BMS held voltage above the low-cell cutoff threshold during sustained motor draw, and the charge controller accepted the pack without error flags on a standard NARWAL dock.
- Dock charging habit for NARWAL robotic vacuums: Do not leave the J3 or J4 sitting on the dock continuously between cleaning sessions. NARWAL's trickle-charge dock keeps the pack at float voltage indefinitely, which accelerates capacity fade in Li-ion cells. Charge to full, then remove the unit from the dock until the next scheduled run.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than rated due to a restricted airflow path — not because the cell is depleted. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling amps that push the BMS toward its overcurrent threshold. The BMS responds by throttling output voltage to protect the cells, which the vacuum reads as low power rather than a blockage. Clean or replace the filter first before concluding the battery is at fault.
Motor cuts out mid-cycle then restarts after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction restriction — usually a near-blocked filter or partial brush-roll jam — drives current above the pack's protection limit, the BMS disconnects the output and resets after a short recovery window. The unit powers back on because the cells themselves are fine. Clear the brush roll, inspect the filter, and confirm airflow is unrestricted; the cutout should not recur once draw returns to normal operating current.

Frequently Asked Questions
My NARWAL J3 used to clean two full rooms on one charge — now it barely finishes one. The battery is only 14 months old. What caused this?
Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of accelerated capacity fade in the J3. NARWAL's dock holds the pack at float voltage whenever the unit sits idle, and sustained trickle charge degrades Li-ion cells faster than normal cycle wear. A replacement pack restores original capacity, but the fade will return quickly if the charging habit does not change. Charge to full, remove from the dock, and only redock when the battery needs a charge.
The J3 shuts off mid-clean on heavy carpet, but if I wait 10 seconds it powers back on and finishes the job. Is the battery failing?
That behaviour points to a BMS overcurrent trip, not cell failure. Heavy carpet increases motor load, and if the filter is even partially restricted, current draw spikes above the pack's protection threshold, causing an automatic disconnect and short reset. Check and clean the filter before replacing the battery — if the cutout stops after clearing the airflow restriction, the pack is not the problem. If it continues with a clean filter, the cells may no longer hold voltage under peak load and replacement is the next step.
I installed the new BP4S2PPM5B battery but the NARWAL J4 dock shows a charging error and won't charge it. What should I check?
The J4 dock uses a BMS handshake to verify the pack before starting a charge cycle. If the dock LED shows an error immediately on contact, first reseat the battery to confirm the connector pins are fully engaged — a partial connection breaks the communication signal. If reseating does not clear the error, remove the battery, leave it out for 30 seconds to reset the dock's controller, then reinstall and redock. If the error persists, measure the pack voltage with a multimeter; a reading below 10V indicates a deeply discharged cell that the dock's protection circuit will refuse to charge.
